Husband and wife team Jen and Marty Reyes set off on the quest to bring a tropical escape to Dallas in 2015. When the brick and mortar dream seemed too far out of reach, Marty came up with a plan to get Swizzle's name out there by doing Tiki pop-ups. The first was in May of 2016. They were delighted to meet other tikiphiles and guests who shared their passion for tropical cocktails and immersive experiences. As the years went on, the search for a “home” grew and so did the events. The duo and their incredible team of talented bartenders soon started producing Dallas Tiki Week with the Dallas USBG and found an even wider tiki audience across the great state of Texas. ​ In 2019 their dream finally came true and they found a place they could call home. Swizzle opened on Lower Greenville in November of 2020. ​ We are a Beachcomber bar focusing on telling the story of the history of Tiki Art, the craft of tropical cocktails, where these ideas came from and where they are headed in our modern culture. Our walls are decorated with artists old and new to showcase these transitions and our menu too starts with, “classics” and moves to original cocktails to tell that story similar to the way Donn the Beachcomber once did. From the food to the drinks, this mom and pop business, and its talented team of Swizzle-nauts, uses hand crafted ingredients and made from scratch recipes (some which have been passed down through our family) creating unique and fresh flavors for your palate. HISTORY OF THE VENUE The Brake & Clutch building was constructed in the 1930s and served as the home of Brake & Clutch Service Co. for many years before closing in the 1980s. It stood empty for years, waiting to be converted into the space it is now! The venue, which launched in 2017, is run by a mother and two children who designed it expressly for special gatherings. The towering ceilings, industrial atmosphere, and high-end finish lend themselves to basic and elegant styles, as well as anything in between. Built over a 55-year period beginning in 1924, the four buildings that make up Lone Star Gas Lofts are situated on a full city block bounded by Harwood, Wood, St. Paul and Jackson Streets in downtown Dallas. Two of the structures, the Lone Star Gas Co. and Dallas Gas Company buildings, are historic landmarks and fine examples of Lang and Witchell architecture with beautiful Art Deco details and are Dallas’ latest historic landmarks to be revived by Hamilton Properties in partnership with Central Dallas CDC.The Lone star Gas Co. Building is a thirteen story Art Deco structure with rich street entrances bearing ornate light fixtures. The elaborately appointed lobby once served as the bill payment area, back in the age when paying your bill meant taking a trip downtown, and still has soaring columns with ornamental check stands, a high beamed ceiling in brilliant colors and relief sculptures carved into the stone walls. This part of the historic building is now home to The Carlisle Room. Opulent is the best way to describe this newly renovated downtown venue. Twenty foot ceilings, terrazzo floors and marble pillars are just a few of the highlights of this historic 1930's Art Deco design.
