    Sterling Vineyards

1111 W Dunaweal Ln, Calistoga, CA 94515, USA

Sterling Vineyards includes a sprawling eight ranches and vineyards spread around Napa Valley. The Diamond Mountain Ranch lies west of the town of Calistoga, near the top of the Diamond Mountain American Viticultural Area. The ranch’s 120 acres, planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, range in elevation from 1,700 to 2,000 feet, climbing the steep northern face of the Mayacamas Mountains. Nearly vertical slopes, austere soils, and dry farming stress the vines planted here, and low-vigor volcanic soils provide minimal nutrition. This results in small, intensely concentrated fruit clusters that make deeply pigmented, assertive wines with full body and rich tannins. The Bear Flats Estate Vineyard lies north of the town of St. Helena and slopes from Highway 29 to the Napa River. This location within the Calistoga AVA of Napa Valley allows the vineyard to experience hotter daytime temps following cool mornings that extend the ripening period. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot thrive, producing grapes with rich, plush flavors and optimal ripeness, in the well-drained, gravelly loam soil of this 87-acre vineyard. North of St. Helena, on the east side of Highway 29, Larsen Ranch features alluvial clay loam on both sides of the Napa River. This site’s 50 acres are planted exclusively to Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Southwest of the town of Calistoga, Peterson Ranch rises from 700 to 900 feet above the valley floor. The complex aspects of the terraced mountain sides create micro climates within the vineyard. The Cabernet Sauvignon planted here develops concentrated varietal expression in the well-drained, deep, rich loam of this vineyard’s 60 planted acres. Wines from this vineyard are very intense with weight and richness that give way to complex layers of aroma and flavor. Located south of the town of Calistoga, Calistoga Ranch sits astride the Napa River and is comprised of alluvial loam soils. The cooling influence of the Napa River ensures cool mornings followed by hot days allowing for longer ripening period. The vineyard's 45 acres are planted exclusively to Sauvignon Blanc, which develop a bright varietal expression. The meticulously farmed Sleeping Lady Vineyard is located in the Yountville AVA of the Napa Valley. The Sleeping Lady Vineyard, on the west bench of Yountville sitting up against the Mayacamas Mountains, and is named for the distinctive foothills behind the property that look like a woman laying on her side. The pristine vineyard of just over 50 acres has six clones of Cabernet Sauvignon grown on it; Sterling Vineyards winemaker Harry Hansen works with three of these clones (2, 22, and 30). The Yates Family vineyard is found moderately high, just above the town of Napa, planted at an elevation of 1,100 feet. Mt. Veeder is one of Napa’s most unique AVAs, the southernmost and coolest growing region, known for an extended growing season and volcanic soils with a variety of micro climates. The vineyard is found at the end of Redwood Road, near the Archer Taylor Preserve managed by the Land Trust of Napa Valley. Vineyards were first planted here in the 1860s and have been used by Sterling via a long-term partnership. The Tamagni Estate Vineyard is comprised of 53 planted acres that lie south of the town of Calistoga between the Silverado Trail and the Napa River. Situated within the prestigious Calistoga AVA of Napa Valley, the vineyard is primarily planted to Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc. These varieties thrive in this property’s sandy loam, clay loam, and alluvial loam soils.

    Del Dotto

1551 Sage Canyon Rd, St Helena, CA 94574, USA

Located in the beautiful Napa Valley, Del Dotto Family Wineries & Caves focus on small production, premium wines. Dave Del Dotto has spent the past 25 years acquiring vineyards in some of the best American Viticultural Areas including Rutherford, Oakville, St. Helena, Howell Mountain, and Fort Ross-Seaview Sonoma Coast. Currently, the family produces cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, sangiovese and sauvignon blanc from the Napa Valley vineyards, as well as pinot noir, chardonnay and limited amounts of syrah, sauvignon blanc, sparkling grenache and mourvedre from the Cinghiale Vineyard in the King Ridge region of the Sonoma Coast. With a family name rooted in winemaking since the 1400s, wine was in Dave’s veins. He started collecting bottles in the late ‘80s. In 1988, he was on a wine-buying trip in Napa Valley with his wife Yolanda when they stumbled upon a beautiful 1912 Frank Lloyd Wright craftsman house located in the desirable Rutherford appellation. Dave had a palate for fine wines and a love for real estate, and he knew the Rutherford property had the potential to produce some remarkable grapes. He and Yolanda purchased the 17-acre property on the spot after falling in love with the view. Shortly after, the family moved from Kona, Hawaii, and in 1990, continued the 800-year old Del Dotto legacy by planting new rootstock of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot and sangiovese. Dave and Yolanda, along with their two children, Desiree and Giovanni, live and work in Napa Valley, overseeing the operations of their three wineries: Historic Del Dotto, Del Dotto Estate and Piazza Del Dotto. The family’s impact is noticeable across all aspects of the business—from the vineyards to the tasting rooms and caves—the wine, the food pairings, the architecture, ambiance and décor are all influenced by the family’s desire to offer every guest the best winery experience in Napa Valley. While the wines are their masterpiece, a great wine tasting must have world-class food that brings the wine to life. The executive chef Joshua Schwartz, formerly of The French Laundry, Per Se, Bouchon and Bouley, has also been with the family for more than a decade and his inspired cuisine has highlighted how to marry the art of wine and food. From house-cured salumi and slow-braised meats to vegetables from the garden and Grandma Dee’s handmade ravioli, Chef Joshua collaborates on a unique menu that embodies the season and pairs perfectly and highlights the amazing wines.

    Robert Sinskey Vineyards

6320 Silverado Trail, Napa, CA 94558, USA

RSV is a second-generation, family-owned and operated vineyard and winery guided by the principle that the craft of winegrowing begins with the care of the soil. Every vine for every wine was planted by RSV with every vineyard certified* organic. One could say that RSV is beyond organic. Since 1991, RSV has been practicing the “whole farm” philosophy of interrelationships based on Rudolph Steiner’s 1928 lecture “Agriculture.” This approach addresses the damage done by modern, mechanized farming to heal an ailing earth, tapping into the rhythms of nature, encouraging natural processes to grow balanced wine grapes that require little more than attentiveness to craft into expressive, vibrant and living wines. RSV approaches the cellar with purist sensibilities. Winemaker Jeff Virnig provides the knowledge of nearly 35 years in the RSV cellar and vineyards, crafting wines that are true to variety and place. RSV to maintains a house style of elegance, balance and finesse. RSV does not submit wine for review by score-centric critics, because to taste wine in a competitive atmosphere, without food on the table, rewards muscular wines that shout while ignoring well-crafted wines of subtlety and grace that compliment the table… attributes that define the fine wines of RSV. Fine wine needs to evolve from a distinct point of view – a self-imposed discipline to navigate the siren song of temptation. Otherwise, you may wake up one day to find yourself fabricating a wine to placate a critic or fill a market segment, and discover your craft has devolved into just another recipe for soulless wine. Find out why RSV was named Sunset magazine’s tasting room of the year and the Wine Spectator featured it as a must visit winery in Napa Valley. But don’t take their word for it, come see it for yourself. Great wine is about good food and good people. You will find all that and more at RSV. RSV is dedicated to the agrarian, culinary experience. Sheep graze the vineyards and provide wool, pelts and meat. Edible landscape, extensive culinary gardens and fruit orchards cover the winery grounds and vineyards. Beehives dot the backside of RSV’s Capa Vineyard where they pollinate the orchards and provide honey. RSV has even planted an experimental truffle orchard with English Oaks and Filberts… because elegant, balanced wines should be served with produce and meats from the gardens and/or artisan purveyors and prepared in RSV’s Vineyard Kitchen.

    Alpine Ranch

5241 St Helena Rd, Santa Rosa, CA 95404, USA

Alpine Ranch, built in the 1980's, was a premier Arabian horse facility, known as Palo Verde, designed as a breeding stable, with 95 stalls, a show barn, 1/4 mile track and formal courtyard. Custom-milled cedar wood and stained-glass windows are still part of the architecture. The 1900's farmhouse, with original stone foundation, was originally the homestead for the largest ranch in what was known as Sonoma Counties' Alpine Valley. Today, Alpine Ranch is a working equestrian barn and vineyard; the Arabian show barn has been converted to an event space and the original farmhouse is a guest cottage. The large equestrian estate is available for a small number of events a year. The property is nestled in the Mayacamas mountain range between Calistoga, St. Helena and Santa Rosa. Your special event can be held in one of their cedar barns, the 13,000 square foot large open courtyard at the center of the equestrian complex, or in what was once the show barn for Arabian horses. Alpine Ranch is a working ranch and vineyard, in addition to being a great place to throw a party. They have horses, hay, rolling fields, and rambling, rustic space under the barn rafters to help make your celebration special and memorable. The farm house, built in the early 1900s, was the homestead for the original Alpine Ranch, which ranged hundreds of acres. At the corner of two idyllic Sonoma County roads, the three bedroom cottage overlooks California Oak trees and horse pastures. A two-night stay is included when you book your event. When the day finally arrives, the Distinct Locations team will ensure that all aspects of the property are in perfect harmony, and you will know you are in the perfect place.

At Montelena, they question everything — convention, past methodologies, or how they can do something just a little bit better. With the freedom to explore, we have the privilege to learn. And by asking ourselves why, we can better understand the path to how. With a 14-decade legacy comes the responsibility for further growth and at Montelena they refuse to rest on their laurels. Chateau Montelena has a celebrated history, and the Judgment of Paris is just one chapter. Modern technology does not replace people or the art in winemaking but expands the creative potential. There are no formulas here. Careful consideration drives every project with the determination to build the future. Fifty years of Barrett ownership have cultivated a profound understanding of the land we farm at Montelena. At Montelena, they are not interested in recreating a specific flavor in the wines year after year, but capturing each unique season through the lens of our growing site. Their goal is to paint with all of the colors, with uniqueness expressed in every vintage. Regardless of your wine background, Montelena speaks to who you are and where you are. There is a unique story living within each bottle they craft. They build our wines to stand the test of time. The cellar, comprising every vintage they have made, is testament to this belief. However, ageability isn’t solely a trial of endurance but rather an opportunity to flourish. Each bottle should taste delicious today and continue to evolve, rewarding patience in the future. Montelena is open for tasting experiences by reservation. They look forward to welcoming you to the Estate for a tasting reservation or to pick up a wine purchase. To join them on the Estate, you must have a reservation or pickup confirmation, and all members of your party must be aged 21 years of age or older. Chateau Montelena is located at the top of Napa Valley in Calistoga. Please allow at least 45 minutes from downtown Napa and two hours from San Francisco. At Pine Ridge Vineyards, they are committed to and have always embraced sustainable practices. They take every step we can to preserve the ecosystem of the region, and their Napa Green certification demonstrates their commitment as responsible stewards of the land. The multidisciplinary in-house Green Team meets regularly to monitor and improve their practices and to implement the latest sustainable practices, ensuring long-term viability of the business and quality of life in the community. This philosophy allows them to deliver wines that express their natural origin and will be complex and elegant for years to come. Since their founding in 1978, Pine Ridge Vineyards has invested in 160 acres of estate vineyards, 47 of which are in our home appellation, Stags Leap District. They also own vineyards throughout the most renowned growing regions of Napa Valley: Howell Mountain, Oakville, Rutherford, and Carneros. This great diversity of terroir inspires their winemaking team to craft wines that reflect the outstanding characteristics of their distinct origins. Since 2003, Gustavo Aviña, the Director of Viticulture, has worked intimately with every Pine Ridge Vineyards estate property. He and his team understand the soils and climates of the winery’s vineyards. If he had to choose a favorite, Gustavo might pick Howell Mountain. He likes the way this steeply sloping vineyard is challenging to farm; it’s also the first vineyard he developed from the ground up for Pine Ridge Vineyards. Their winemaking philosophy is guided by the thoughtful selection of vineyard blocks designated for each wine. Their goal is to honor the unique winemaking needs of each of our estate vineyards in five different appellations, as well as the ever-changing demands of each new vintage. Meticulous attention to detail in the cellar allows them to craft appellation wines that express their distinct terroir with power, elegance, and texture. The Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon blend is produced from as many as 80 different small lots—wines that showcase the complex expression of this storied winegrowing region. Our winemaking team also leads extensive barrel trials to determine the aging approaches that best enhance the personality of each wine; these programs are well-known locally for bringing winemakers together in the rustic ambiance of their caves.

Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, notably known for being the winery that won the Cabernet Sauvignon competition in the famous 1976 Judgment of Paris, was founded in 1970, and is considered a Napa Valley first-growth estate. In 1969, The founder of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars first tasted with Nathan Fay, whose scenic vineyard below the rocky promontory of the Stags Leap Palisades, so named because of the legend of the stag who successfully eluded hunters by leaping to freedom across the district's landmark peaks, was the first planting of Cabernet Sauvignon in what later became the Stags Leap District. In 1970, The founder purchased the 44 acre property, which was primarily a prune orchard, next to Nathan Fay's vineyard, named the property Stag's Leap Vineyards, and replanted it to Cabernet Sauvignon and a little bit of Merlot. Stag's Leap Wine Cellars was born. In 1972, The first vintage of S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon is produced. In 1973, The first winery building is completed, and the now historic 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon becomes the first wine made in the new red wine facility. In 1974, The first vintage of CASK 23 is produced after consulting winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff, while tasting through the lots of wine from this vintage, decided that one lot, which was in the large wooden cask numbered 23, was so beautiful and deliciously distinct that it should be bottled separately. In 1976, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars won the Cabernet Sauvignon category in a blind tasting staged by Steven Spurrier, an English wine merchant in Paris, among French wine experts between American and French wines. This later became known as the famous Judgment of Paris. In 1986, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars purchased FAY vineyard from Nathan Fay.
