Woodend Sanctuary & Mansion is an elegant yet relaxed 40-acre private property located 9 miles from downtown DC. The venue comprises the historic Mansion, a climate-controlled tented terrace (Apr-Nov), and surrounding lawns. The Hemlock Grove is one of the most unique outdoor ceremony areas in the entire DC region. Check out lots of photos and videos on social media at woodendsanctuary. The tented terrace is the backup plan for your ceremony in case of inclement weather and can accommodate all your guests. During the winter months, our historic Mansion is ideal for receptions, holiday parties, corporate events, and so much more. There is no sales tax. BYO alcohol, no corkage. Belmont Manor and Historic Park is a 68-acre historic estate in Elkridge, Maryland, operated by Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks. Built in 1738 as a private manor for Caleb and Priscilla Dorsey, the property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Lawyers Hill Historic District. Over its nearly three centuries of history, the estate has passed through the stewardship of the Smithsonian Institution, the American Chemical Society, and Howard Community College before Howard County acquired it in 2012. The grounds encompass formal gardens, a picturesque aqua garden, rolling terrain, a pond, and a collection of historic structures including the Manor House, Carriage House, Cottage House, and a large barn. Strong Mansion is a historic event venue set within Stronghold, a private, nonprofit preserve encompassing 3,000 acres on Sugarloaf Mountain in Dickerson, Maryland. Built in 1912 and refurbished for modern events, the neoclassical mansion and its formal gardens provide a distinctive backdrop for weddings, banquets, and special occasions. The property is available for events from April through November. At the foot of Catoctin Mountain and conveniently located along Rt 15, Springfield Manor is an unmistakably prominent historic mansion that should not be missed. The Manor, which was built in 1774, can accommodate huge formal events as well as small intimate parties, and it also has eight luxurious apartments for overnight guests. The rebuilt bank barn serves as the tasting room for the Winery, Distillery, and Brewery, as well as a gathering spot for special events. Springfield Manor is a 130-acre estate that lies atop its own limestone aquifer, which generates the trademark Limestone Spring Water after which the estate was called. Montpelier Mansion is an 18th-century Georgian Colonial estate and National Historic Landmark located on approximately 70 acres of parkland in Laurel, Maryland. Built between the 1780s, the property is surrounded by lush evergreens and 200-year-old boxwoods, with formal gardens that have been carefully preserved alongside the mansion's original architecture. The mansion features two wings fitted with chandeliers, cathedral ceilings, and crown molding, making the spaces well suited to intimate gatherings, ceremonies, and receptions. The smaller wing accommodates up to 40 guests and the larger up to 85. Event rentals include seven hours of event time and come equipped with a warming kitchen, audio-visual equipment, and wireless internet. The History of Rockwood Manor Retreats and Events After leaving Washington, D.C., Carolyn Gangwer Caughey (pronounced "Coy") traveled west along the Old Conduit Road (now MacArthur Boulevard) to her newly purchased estate near Great Falls. Mountains of tall cedars, poplars, and oaks cover rock-studded hillsides that gently slope down to a stream valley. A name for Mrs. Caughey's country estate was suggested to her by the natural elements almost immediately: Rockwood. Carolyn was a well-to-do socialite whose ancestors traced their roots back to the American Revolution. She was also a successful businesswoman who had a passion for architecture and a keen eye for profit in the real estate market. According to Who's Who in the Nation's Capital, she is "active in civic betterment, particularly in relation to better-constructed and better-planned homes," among other things. It also mentions that she was responsible for designing one of the largest apartment buildings in the nation's capital at the time. As a result, many of her close friends were not surprised when she revealed that she had designed and personally supervised the construction of her new home. Visiting auctions and antique dealers in the area on a regular basis assisted her in the furnishing of her country estate.
