438 NE 35th Terrace, Miami, FL 33137, USA

Since Lorena Garcia has been cooking professionally, she has focused on bringing the flavors of Latin cooking -- one of the great cuisines of the world -- to a wider audience. Her global, fresh and highly flavorful take on Latin Cuisine offers a modern fusion of classic techniques with Latin ingredients. Her life as a chef, entrepreneur, cookbook author, media personality, cookware designer and restaurateur has been a celebration of the cooking and passion for food that she grew up with in her native Caracas, Venezuela with the international flavors and culinary techniques she amassed as a young chef working in some of the world’s finest restaurants. In July 2002, Garcia opened her first restaurant, Food Café, followed by Elements Tierra in Miami’s Design District. In 2011, she moved her restaurant operations into airports (currently at MIA, DFW and ATL), offering millions of travelers Lorena Garcia Tapas y Cocina, a healthier take on traditional Latin cuisine. Lorena also operates the Lorena Garcia Culinary Loft in Miami, which is available for private events, as well as film and television production. In 2017, Garcia embarked on her most ambitious restaurant project in collaboration with the award- winning international hospitality ground 50 Eggs Inc., landing her on the world-famous Las Vegas Strip. CHICA by Lorena Garcia located at The Venetian hotel is a stunning celebration of Latin American cooking and hospitality showcasing flavors, influences and techniques from Venezuela, Peru, Brazil, Argentina and Mexico, combined and reimagined in Garcia’s distinct global style. With CHICA, she has joined the ranks of the world class chefs on Restaurant Row at The Venetian including Thomas Keller and Emeril Lagasse – and now her photo proudly lives between them as the first woman chef on the “Wall of Culinary Titans” outside the property. The expansion of the CHICA brand brought Garcia back home to South Florida when the concept opened its second location in Miami’s historic MiMo district in late-2019. The Miami incarnation of CHICA by Lorena Garcia appeals to both locals and visitors alike, featuring the robust and vibrant flavors of authentic Latin and South American dishes, inventive cocktails and an unparalleled dining experience guaranteed to elevate the local culinary landscape. Every cantina is a representation of the culture of the community in which it is located. In terms of gastronomy, we have an extensive menu of Mexican Cuisine dishes, with dishes from each state of the country represented, as well as traditional techniques and recipes (handmade tortillas, sauces made in a molcajete), as well as avant-garde techniques such as vacuum cooking, spherification, foam, and so on. We are continually updating our menu and the chef's suggestions to include new and high-quality foods as they become available. Our decorations have been carefully chosen from among the most illustrious artisans in Mexico's history. We take pleasure in its hues, which are set inside the geometry of Mexican Art Deco building, and which frame the magnificence of its magic with bright black and golden colors. The centerpiece of our establishment are our colossal bars, which provide one of the most extensive tequila and mezcal selections in town, as well as tasty and sophisticated cocktails crafted by our bar manager. We are a Mexican restaurant, deli, and cafe that takes great delight in offering authentic Mexican food. Enjoy a tranquil environment in the heart of Brickell in Miami.

    Meetinghouse

168 SE 1st St, Miami, FL 33131, USA

Meetinghouse is a 5,000 square foot exhibition and event space in the penthouse of the 1920s Historic Huntington Building. Featuring double-height, 14-foot ceilings, original windows with exceptional views of Downtown Miami, polished concrete floors and a full kitchen. It can seat 350 people, 450 standing. Meetinghouse is an interdisciplinary artistic and cultural space located in the historic Huntington building in downtown Miami. Inspired by past artist cooperatives such as Roycroft, Bauhaus, and the Shakers, we were founded in 2014 to further the discovery, dialog and expression across disciplines. Our programming includes exhibitions, lectures, screenings, performances, and printed materials and catalogs, bringing together local, national and international artists and designers based on shared processes and concepts observed in their works. A current event being hosted is Retreat and Relocation: A Colloquium on Climate Migration. Artists described the event in this way: As the land shifts, quakes, and floods with increasing frequency, it is evident that current modes of adaptation and mitigation are increasingly short-lived. Given the reality of time-limited approaches, as well as eventual reductions in both geography and investment, the Colloquium will consider retreat as a viable spatial alternative, with consideration of what is needed for design and policy to accommodate this possibility. Understanding that engineering and design models have established a leading theme for the last decade of discussion and planning in relation to climate change responses across communities, this Colloquium seeks to expand this framework to engage in a discussion of retreat applying a community-based focus. A panel discussion will provide an introduction to global strategies and policy analysis, and a facilitated discussion will enable local leaders to discuss applications in their own communities. The goal of this gathering is to open avenues of collaboration to explore new opportunities to evaluate conditions and impacts, and develop proactive strategies for facilitating retreat. Meetinghouse also hosts pop up events. On August 19th, meetinghouse and Ground Control Miami activated a three-day pop-up shop to support future programming, as well as bringing some summer revenue to the participating artists. Their goal was to support the scene by collaborating with the local artists and to create the financial means to produce cutting-edge exhibitions, performances, and publications with no costs to the artists or audience.

    Morgan’s

28 NE 29th St, Miami, FL 33132, USA

Wow! It seems like only yesterday when we refurbished the landmark neighborhood fixture of the little purple house in Wynwood, Miami, Florida. The first order of business? Choosing our name. Morgan, our oldest daughter, was chosen as a direct result of her uncanny ability in the great sibling equalizer rock, paper, scissors, winning five straight matches and several "re-dos". We suppose it's those communal moments that give us that pep in our collective step. The world has gone up and got itself in some hurry, even the clouds seem to have somewhere to be. At Morgan's we've gone ahead and selected to press pause and enjoy the moment, to cherish companionship. We can still remember running around our summer home, which was also the back porch of our winter home. Enjoying the sun from the day's end, sitting on that old wooden swing with a calm breeze that carried us into a warm summer evening. We've worked our brow off to create that same comforting feeling at Morgan's, where listening is valued as much as speaking and good friends and family take the cake, well, pie as is often in our case.

Historic Virginia Key Beach Park occupies a singular place in Miami history. Established in 1945 as Miami-Dade County's only beach designated for Black residents during segregation, the park was closed in 1982 and sat dormant for more than two decades before a community-led restoration effort brought it back. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2002 and reopened in 2008 following a $30 million renovation, the park today serves as both a public destination and a working event venue on the shores of Biscayne Bay. The park offers a broad range of rentable settings — from intimate shaded pavilions seating up to 150 guests to expansive open-air areas accommodating festivals and concerts of several thousand. The colorful Chickee Village, beachfront spaces, and lawn areas each offer a distinct character suited to weddings, family reunions, corporate retreats, and community gatherings. The restored historic carousel and the park's natural mangrove landscape provide a backdrop that few South Florida venues can match. Outside vendors and catering are permitted. Events requiring permits — including alcohol service — are supported through the park's Special Events team, which coordinates the full permitting process with the City of Miami.
