Since opening in 2010 — built on a history stretching back to 1973, when Planterra Interior Landscaping began from a private greenhouse on the former Sanders estate in Bloomfield Hills — the conservatory has become one of Michigan's most recognized celebration spaces, named one of the "Best Venues in America" by Brides Magazine and one of the "22 Best Garden and Wedding Venues in the World" by Harper's Bazaar. The Dexter Ballroom features elegant hardwood floors, west-facing windows, two Steinway grand pianos and a large kitchen. The ballroom can accommodate 250 standing guests or 184 for a plated dinner. HISTORY In 1915, the architectural firm William S. Jay & Co. designed & opened The Norwood Theatre. It was then demolished in the summer of 1941 to allow for road widening. The Ford Avenue Piquette Plant was built in 1904 by the fledgling Ford Motor Company. It was here that Henry Ford would produce several car models- including his most famous automobile- the Model T. Once outside the plant's walls, the Model T started a revolution that would put the world on wheels. OUR ORGANIZATION The Model-T Automotive Heritage Complex, Inc., (doing business as) the Ford Piquette Avenue Plant, was organized in 2000 as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization for the purpose of preserving the Plant and keeping it from being demolished. Open year round as a Museum and education center, the plant now attracts visitors from around the world. It provides special programs and events for bus tours, families, and scores of people attending public and private events from car shows to weddings. The Ford Piquette Avenue Plant (FPAP) is managed by a Board of Trustees and volunteer committees. The historic site is financially self-supported. It is not affiliated with Ford Motor Company or Ford Foundation.
