Novela offers a fascinating and sophisticated environment that juxtaposes classic and contemporary design, from our chromatically classified book collection to the names of our house drinks, which are taken from characters in cherished literary works. The atmosphere is conducive to a variety of gatherings, ranging from boisterous after-work mixers to first dates and birthday parties. Seasonally changing drink and punch menus are masterfully designed by our professional bartenders. We collaborate to create a selection of innovative house cocktails and historically inspired punches-on-tap. Each of our house cocktails is made using components that aren't generally found in classic punches. 888 BANQUET & EVENT SPACE: China Live is an interactive culinary and cultural destination located at the entrance to San Francisco's Chinatown, offering a comprehensive look into Greater Chinese cuisine. Our goal is to demystify Chinese ingredients and cuisine while also educating guests about the country's rich history and cultural heritage. China Live can accommodate small gatherings of 10 individuals to large reception-style events with up to 825 people and many sensory experiences. MARKET RESTAURANT: Our first-floor restaurant offers a seasonal menu that changes daily and is prepared at eight specialized stations that combine traditional Chinese and Western culinary technology. A major dining space serves as the focal point, with handcrafted seats and tables made from reclaimed Chinese elm in China. These exhibition kitchens, which have plenty of bar seating, allow you to get a closer look at the skilled chefs at work. The wok station combines European and Chinese flair, with a state-of-the-art Hestan range on one side and an extensive custom-designed wok line by Joe Yick, a third-generation family business in San Francisco, on the other. The charcuterie station features a deep wood-fired oven, similar to a pizza oven in concept, but serving classic roast duck and chicken instead. DESIGN: A Chinese clay oven, similar to an Indian tandoor, is a three-foot tall receptacle resembling an enormous vase that sustains low heat over charcoal fire for an extended period of time, suitable for low and slow roasting pork. Dumplings, in particular, scream Chinese cuisine. This station, which serves as the restaurant's focal point, is equipped with enormous cast iron pans for cooking pot stickers and a variety of steamed and pan-fried dumplings. Finally, a dessert bar to quench your sweet desire.

Founded in 1948, the center occupies an 80,000-square-foot facility and has served Marin County for over seven decades as a gathering place for people of all ages and backgrounds. The JCC's event spaces accommodate gatherings from intimate receptions to large-scale celebrations. The signature Hoytt Theater seats up to 275 guests at tables or 400 in theater-style configuration. Smaller spaces — including the Kurland Lounge, Pell Atrium, and Isaacs Gallery — host gatherings of 30 to 70 guests, while the outdoor Upper Courtyard seats up to 90 guests and accommodates 200 in a standing layout. The venue has hosted weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, quinceañeras, galas, grad nights, and live performances.
