The glitter of 22-karat gold greets visitors to the China Cabin, once the elegant social saloon of the PS China, giving them a glimpse of the old-world luxury and attention to detail that first-class passengers enjoyed when the ship first sailed from its home port of San Francisco. The Cabin consists of a large room and two small staterooms. Its plain exterior belies the ornate and regal appointments inside. The walls and arched ceiling are panels of elaborately decorated wood that have been painted a crisp white and highlighted with gold leaf. Along the sides of the Cabin are a series of small, delicately etched glass windows; handsome crystal chandeliers hang at each end of the room. The Cabin also has decks on three sides that have wonderful views of the San Francisco skyline and of the colorful boats berthed at the nearby yacht harbor. The China Cabin offers a glimpse of old-world elegance and attention to detail; the result is a rich, sophisticated appearance that makes this a unique setting for a special wedding, rehearsal dinner, meeting and private or corporate party.

Standing beneath marble columns, ornately gilded balconies and an elaborate frescoed ceiling, it’s easy to imagine this building’s allure when it first came on the scene as a flashy French restaurant and San Francisco’s grandest nightclub. Opening in 1907 on the heels of the great earth- quake, the 5,000-square- foot concert hall symbolized the city’s renewed optimism. The popular club flourished for a quarter century in this incarnation, then became the Music Box, where Sally Rand performed her famous fan dances. In 1972 it was reborn as the Great American Music Hall. For more than 25 years the hall has showcased the talents of music and comedy greats such as Prince, Ray Charles, Jay Leno, Whoopi Goldberg and Robin Williams. Its intimate setting and wonderful acoustics continue to make it a favorite of music lovers throughout the Bay Area. In addition to countless concerts, the Hall has hosted corporate bashes, fundraisers, holiday parties, product launches and weddings.

Greens Restaurant is a perfect venue for any type of private event. Wedding receptions large and small, business presentations and meetings, birthday parties, bridal and baby showers, alumni receptions — the list goes on and on. Whatever the event, Greens is the place for it. The entire restaurant is available for a buyout any day or evening. Greens can accommodate up to 140 people for a sit-down meal and 200 people for a standing reception. We also have a beautiful Private Dining Room that can seat up to 50 people, or host a standing reception of up to 70, though we frequently have groups of less than 25. The Private Dining Room has the same expansive views of the San Francisco Bay and the iconic Golden Gate Bridge as our main dining room, but in a more intimate setting. The Private Events Manager at Greens will work with you personally to create an event to your exact specifications. The Clubhouse's beauty and warm ambience are suitable for the Club's various member functions. The University Club of San Francisco was established with the goal of providing a gathering place for alumni from various colleges. The Clubhouse's first location was rented at 722 Sutter Street. It was eventually regarded too tiny to accommodate the rising membership, despite its elegance. In the historic earthquake of 1906, the Club's original location at 722 Sutter was demolished, and the majority of the building was devoured by fire. 800 Powell, once the Stanford Mansion's stables, was chosen as the location for the new Clubhouse. The Club's new edifice was designed by renowned architects Walter Bliss and William Faville.
