A beautiful piece of the Blue Ridge foothills, discovered by J. Willard Marriott Sr. in 1951, reminded him of his boyhood days on his family's farm in Utah, and became the inspiration for the creation of Marriott International. Following his purchase of the property, he began meticulously restoring the primary historic buildings and their surrounding grounds, and he continued to purchase contiguous parcels of land, including Fiery Run Ranch, resulting in the creation of the 4200+/- acre Marriott Ranch. With a modest herd of registered Hereford cattle, a large flock of black-faced sheep, and the breeding of quarter horses, J. Willard was able to bring the farm, which had been known as "Fairfield," back to life over the next few years. Affectionate horseback rider and outdoorsman, J. Willard would spend as much time as he could on his Fauquier County property, noting in his diary, "A beautiful place, hard to leave..." The historic James Marshall Manor House (circa 1814), which serves as the focal point of the Inn at Fairfield Farm, is located in the heart of the 4,200-acre Marriott Ranch and is the centerpiece of the Inn at Fairfield Farm. Visitors are reminded of the true meaning of hospitality by the twelve comfortable bedrooms, afternoon beverage service, and three-course breakfasts served each morning. CHECK OUT OUR B&B When not serving as a retreat for the Marriott family, friends, and associates, the working cattle ranch, which has well over 1,200 head of cattle, is used as a premier Northern Virginia outdoor event site for company picnics, executive meetings, and retreats, as well as weddings and other social gatherings.

Wolf Trap Farm is a 600-acre working farm in Gordonsville, Virginia, in the foothills of the Southwest Mountains near Charlottesville. Portions of the property trace back to James Madison, who once owned the land and named it Black Meadow; the Cuthrell family purchased the farm in 2003, restored the Manor House, Pond House, and barns, and opened it to guests in 2004. The farm's two barn pavilions host wedding receptions with a rustic, indoor-outdoor feel. The Cox Mill Pavilion, converted from a former equipment and hay barn in 2014, overlooks the horse paddocks, while the Black Meadow Pavilion, added in 2018, sits atop a ridge with views of the Southwest Mountains. Both feature oak plank walls, farm tables, a dance floor, and a caterer's warming kitchen, and each pairs with its own ceremony site. In 2023, the farm added the Love Pond site, a tented reception space on a hill above its lower pond, with a ceremony area at the water's edge. Wedding parties and their guests can stay on-site in the Manor House, several cottages, the Barn Apartment, and glamping tents, accommodating close to 60 guests plus additional glampers. Between events, the farm's ponds, game barn, woodland trails, and pastures of horses and cattle give guests of all ages things to do.

EVENTS Mt. Defiance is the perfect location for your next private or group event, wedding, or other special occasion. With a big area and facilities, our lovely Cider Barn can accommodate gatherings for up to 200 people. Wedding ceremonies, cocktail receptions, and family pictures can all be held on our expansive porch and patio. Our Philosophy Cider is finally reclaiming its rightful place as America's table drink, a position it had during Colonial times and for much of the nineteenth century to the present. The different schools of thought about cider are evident today, particularly in Virginia where we obtain our apples and produce our cider: from the traditional farm cideries where classic cider apples are pressed and the juice fully fermented with only yeast added, to the cutting edge cider makers who are influenced by the craft beer movement and infuse their ciders with a riotous blend of new and historic natural flavors. Our Ciders are made in small batches. When it comes to our Cidery, Mount Defiance is extremely proud to offer both classic and craft ciders. In addition to traditional farmhouse blends of dry cider and single variety cider, we enjoy infusing fresh ginger for a seriously ginger-flavored cider, as well as a full spectrum of infused and co-fermented ciders ranging from honey (cyser) to blueberries to our five pepper cider, which is designed to withstand barbecues. Every season comes with it a new set of flavors to tempt our clients. Since we feel that there should be a cider to fit a wide variety of tastes and food pairings, our style may best be described as eclectic and approachable. Come pay us a visit and experience the difference for yourself.

The Winery at La Grange sits on land originally part of Robert "King" Carter's Bull Run Tract in Haymarket, Virginia, and traces its centerpiece — a three-story red brick manor house — to builder George Green. Boxwoods planted generations ago have grown to over 20 feet, forming a natural archway along the stone path that connects the manor house to the winery. Benoni E. Harrison purchased the property in 1827 and later served as Prince William County's delegate to the Virginia General Assembly; his name lives on today in Benoni's Lounge, the estate's stone-walled cellar. The winery grows 6.3 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Petit Manseng grapes on the working farm, producing wines described as ones where "every glass tells a story." For weddings, private events, and corporate gatherings, the property's Barn Building serves as its main event space, with suggested floor plans accommodating up to 150 guests and wedding rentals that include the ballroom, bar, bridal suite, patios, kitchen, and grounds.
