Local chocolatier Cheryl Scripter established Bittersweet Confections in 2002. Cheryl, a native of Louisiana, has always had a passion for chocolate confections. She founded Bittersweet Confections with the goal of producing an extraordinary line of chocolates utilizing premium chocolate and local ingredients. Cheryl opened her doors on Magazine Street in 2004 after working from outdoor Farmers Markets and sharing kitchen space with other cooks for a number of years. With the help of a team of 30 incredible chefs, baristas, and cake decorators, Cheryl has expanded her one-person business idea into a flourishing café and bakery with two locations. For the chocolate King Cake, awards include "Best King Cake" from NOLA Defenders for four consecutive years. Watch the annual calendar because Cheryl will be one of the chefs speaking at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, where she shares her love of chocolate while educating and entertaining the audience. Cheryl now utilizes her businesses to honor the resiliency and energy of the city. She makes her delectable truffles with dairy, citrus, and pecans that are all farmed nearby. Unique local features like Royal Street and Canal Street as well as New Orleans areas like the French Quarter and Garden District are commemorated in the names of the chocolate truffle collections.
