Come out and raise your spirits by drumming and dancing with us! People are brought together in joy, for the sake of rejuvenation, health, and community via the use of African dance and drumming. Put an end to your tension, get some exercise, and get into the rhythms.... All around the New England region, Ammaya Dance & Drum provides traditional West African dance and drumming instruction via a variety of settings, including community performances, school presentations, and group drum circles. We dance and play for the delight of African culture as well as the therapeutic power of the art forms of that culture. Classes are open to people of many ages, sizes, shapes, degrees of experience, and backgrounds. Put it to the test! Issa Coulibaly, a renowned drummer from Mali in West Africa, and Tara Murphy, an experienced African-American dancer from Massachusetts, are the artistic directors of Ammaya Dance & Drum. Issa and Tara, together with all of their other dancers and drummers, have established a vibrant dancing and drumming community in the region thanks to their enthusiasm for the traditions and artistic expressions of West Africa. Ammaya Dance & Drum continues active year-round with frequent lessons and performances. They educate people about African culture and the diaspora through the various African dance and drum events that they host all across the New England region. These events are also a means by which they spread the healing and uplifting power of these art forms.
