Elan Trotman

Saxophonist Elan Trotman is quickly becoming one of jazz's most thrilling and emotive performers as he continues to stand out and push boundaries as a composer, performer, teacher, and recording artist. This is due to the fact that he continues to push boundaries as a performer, teacher, and recording artist. Although Trotman's playing was influenced by Grover Washington Jr., Kirk Whalum, and Najee, it demonstrates Trotman's own original ideas and has a tone of his own. To such a degree that on many times, both the New England Urban Music Awards and the Barbados Music Awards have honored him with the title of Jazz Artist of the Year. In addition to that, Trotman is the Executive Producer and Host of the Barbados Jazz Excursion, which is a weekend retreat including jazz and golf that attracts over 300 music enthusiasts to the island every year during the Columbus Day Weekend. Performers such as Jeff Lorber, Javier Colon, Gerald Veasley, Brian Simpson, Althea Rene, Marcus Anderson, and Peter White have taken the stage in the past. Jeffrey Osborne has also taken the stage. Elan is also the one who established the Never Lose Your Drive Foundation. This foundation is a non-profit organization that provides financial support to the Headstart Music Program. Students between the ages of 7 and 11 can participate in Headstart Music's free weekly instrument classes to learn how to play the saxophone, trumpet, flute, clarinet, or percussion instruments. In 2016, the Jazz Excursion Weekend and Golf Tournament was successful in raising over $6,000.00 in donations. The funds are entirely allocated to the payment of the program's instructors, the upkeep of the instruments, and the purchase of necessary materials. Although Trotman attended the illustrious Berklee College of Music in Boston, his approach to jazz is uniquely his own. Trotman was brought up and born on the Caribbean island of Barbados, which is also Rihanna's home island. His performance is full of surprises because to the way he combines the Caribbean rhythms that are from his heritage with the skilled textures of the horn.
