About Gayles Bakery
Gayle and Joe Ortiz decided to operate a modest bakery in the lovely little community of Capitola, California, in 1978. It began with 800 square feet and they served 10 items. The Rosticceria, an Italian deli with a gorgeous rotisserie, was added five years later. Gayle's is now a booming 10,000 square foot food emporium with 180 workers and two popular cookbooks. Every day, we create over 500 different pastries, cakes, cookies, breads, sandwiches, and entreés using only the finest natural ingredients such as real butter, fresh eggs, and organic wheat. Everything is created from scratch, including the mayonnaise! In the food industry, freshness is a relative phrase. A visit starts even before you walk through the door. The aroma of buttery croissants baking fills the air outside early in the morning. A glance through the window later sees the warmth of the rotisserie spinning with golden hens. The aroma of chocolate pastry tempts you to come in late in the day. Inside, beautiful exhibits in glistening showcases entice you to choose as much or as little as you like, according to your schedule. Breakfast can be hot pasta and garlic bread, or dinner can be a Bear Claw and a cappuccino.
