The Harpa is not only one of the most recognizable monuments in all of Reykjavik, but it also serves as a hub for the city's cultural and social activities. Since its debut in 2011, millions of people have been to Harpa to see it as both a place of tourist attraction and a multi-award winning piece of art. In spite of the fact that it is still relatively new, Harpa has already been honored with a great number of prizes, both for its architecture and for its performance as a music and convention center. Among these honors is the prestigious Mies van der Rohe - European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture Award, which was bestowed at Harpa in the year 2013. Gramophone Magazine awarded Harpa the title of one of the top concert halls of the new millennium in 2010, while Business Destination magazine named it the best conference center in Europe in 2016. Both of these honors were given to Harpa. Most recently, the jury for the USITT Architecture Award for acoustic deemed Eldborg to be the unbeatable choice. This is because Eldborg lives up to its duty as a world-class concert hall by utilizing acoustic technology that is on the cutting edge. The Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Icelandic Opera, and the Reykjavik Big Band all present regular concerts at Harpa throughout the year. Harpa is also home to Reykjavik Big Band. In addition, the Mlinn Jazz club and the Classical Sundays Series both call Harpa their home. Both of these series put on performances on a consistent basis.
