Ilex is a modern florist focusing on events, weddings, weekly arrangements, and interior and outdoor plantings for homes and offices. Ilex's idea is to create something one-of-a-kind and personalized for each of our customers. We specialize in small and large events, including weddings, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, and pretty much anything else you can think of. ANDREW ANDERSON Andrew was always surrounded by plants and flowers, from gardening alongside his mother in their vast vegetable garden to selecting and "arranging" peonies from his grandmother's yard. His father is a horticulturist who used to be a dairy farmer, and his uncle is a plant breeder who specializes in chrysanthemum types. To say the least, plants and flowers have always played an important role in his life. With a passion for design, whether it's fashion, architecture, or interior design, he finds inspiration in the smallest detail of a building or the most meticulously crafted seam in a garment. Andrew ended up in floral design, which he discovered by chance and has since become his passion. CAROL SHARP Carol, a former San Francisco defense attorney, changed occupations when her daughters started preschool in Boston. Working with flowers and plants gave her far more pleasure than litigating. She met Andrew while working at a tiny shop on Beacon Hill, where they decided to team up and open their own business. Her major function at ilex has been managing the money since its establishment in 2004, but she is always eager to get off the computer and join Andrew at the design table. Carol enjoys going flower shopping every morning and is particularly drawn to exotic blooms and colors. Her design style is predominantly monochromatic, but she enjoys incorporating a variety of textures into each arrangement. Carol takes satisfaction in assisting customers in producing distinctive enclosure cards, in addition to keeping the business operating smoothly and developing inventive floral designs.
