I'm James Shaw, and I’m so happy you found me. I was fortunate enough to be born in New Orleans, where "we're so far behind we're ahead," as we like to say. It's true, and it's a fascinating place to visit. There's never a dull moment in this place. “If I could put my finger on it, I'd bottle it up and sell it...some people just belong here,” John Goodman once stated. I truly feel a sense of belonging to it all. In 2007, I earned a bachelor's degree in marketing from Louisiana State University. My parents gave me my first "real" camera (a Canon 30D) when I graduated, and I liked learning how to use it. I'm grateful for the learning curve that digital provided, but I've since fallen in love with film. This is a hybrid of digital and analog technology. I felt it was now or never after 6 years in marketing/graphic design and a year in France. In the fall of 2014, I made the decision to leave my day job and pursue photography full-time. It's been incredible, but I'm in desperate need of a new hobby. I enjoy capturing the quirks and obvious in life's personalities and juxtapositions. I enjoy having access to the camera. I enjoy having an excuse to visit locations where I shouldn't be. The power of a still image and the story it can tell still fascinates me. Let's collaborate at your next event.
