Ushaben and Nayanaben began preparing Indian snacks at home in 1985, more than 8500 miles distant from India, the way many people used to. These snacks were sold by Bharatbhai to customers and peers of Indian heritage. While picking up odd jobs in Los Angeles, Chandrakantbhai would sell it to individuals. Within two years, they made the decision to create a restaurant with the goal of serving authentic Indian cuisine from the countryside, something that many Indian immigrants to America were missing. Chandrakantbhai decided that the traditional Guajarati Thali would not suffice before we opened the doors to our first location in Artesia, California, in 1988. As a result, Ushaben and Chandrakantbhai made the decision to travel back to India and learn some of the famous street food dishes from their hometown. The menu was tiny but wholesome when we finally opened the doors. To meet the demand for snacks and catering, we had outgrown the kitchen at our original location by 2001. So, we made the decision to purchase the Eastman Kodak building in Pico Rivera. Today, we make all the snacks and desserts that we cater using that as our foundation. Just a block away from our original Jay Bharat, we took over Standard Sweet and Snacks in 2009 with the intention of serving new cuisines in addition to sweets and snacks. These new offerings would emphasize South Indian and Punjabi delicacies. Due to high demand, we built a third restaurant in Newark, California, in 2013. (SF Bay Area). While Indian food is widely available in the San Francisco Bay area, most eateries specialize in South Indian or Punjabi cuisine. We believe that the neighborhood needs a nutritious Gujarati eatery.
