Kinfolk Brass Band

In 2005, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, brothers Percy and Richard Anderson laid the groundwork for what would later become the Kinfolk Brass Band. Kinfolk Brass Band is at the forefront of the New Orleans Brass Band renaissance. The band plays a style of music that encompasses and melds Mardi Gras Indian chants, New Orleans funk, modern jazz, and traditional brass band sounds. The band has played at festivals, weddings, jazz funerals, and large corporate events all over the world, including while they were on tour in Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, and Turkey, as well as France. The music of the Kinfolk Brass Band has been savored by millions of people all over the world. The band has performed in settings ranging from small clubs to enormous ballrooms, and it has also led second-line parades for hundreds of different kinds of celebrations. The first album by the Kinfolk Brass Band, titled "Bourbon Street Parade," was released with great success in the year 2009. Due to the fact that they have played at over 100 weddings and conventions in just the past year, Kinfolk Brass Band has become the most in-demand brass band in the city of New Orleans. The most recent notable events at which they have appeared include the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, the BCS Allstate Sugar Bowl, and the Olympic Games in London in 2012. They are certain to be the most memorable part of any occasion! Kinfolk Brass Band's co-founder and director, Percy Anderson, was born and raised in New Orleans. He is also the band's namesake. His first experience with playing an instrument came when he joined the marching band at his junior high school, which was led by the late Donald Richardson. When he was in the ninth grade, an assistant band director who was also a member of De'jean Olympia Brass Band gave him his first exposure to the sounds of jazz. As a result, a seed was planted in his desire to play music on a professional level, and it continued to grow. Since 1993, he has had a great deal of success performing in New Orleans alongside a diverse array of musicians and bands. Together with his brother Richard, he established Kinfolk Brass Band, which provided them with the opportunity to showcase their own distinctive approach to the music of brass bands. In addition to being an accomplished trumpet and saxophone player, he also excels in the vocal duties that he is responsible for with the band. Richard Anderson was also born and raised in New Orleans, and along with his brother, Percy, he is the co-founder and co-director of the Kinfolk Brass Band. Similar to his brother, he got his start playing music in the marching band at the junior high school he attended. While he was still in school, his exposure to traditional and modern jazz had a significant impact on his decision to further his musical studies by enrolling at Southern University and AM in Baton Rouge. Under the tutelage of Alvin Batiste, a legendary figure in the annals of New Orleans music's development, he was awarded a Bachelor of Music degree in music performance. After honing his professional musical skills by performing with many of the best bands in the city, he and his brother, Percy, came up with the idea of putting together a group of musicians to perform their own distinctive spin on the traditional sounds of New Orleans brass band music. The Kinfolk Brass Band was formed as a direct consequence of those efforts. The band, which is now in its tenth year, has developed into a polished and professional organization that can satisfy the needs of any customer in terms of musical entertainment. nRichard is an excellent performer who has the ability to win over an audience.
