About MCG Photography
Founded in 2004
WHO: We are two creatives who met in the darkroom at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA in 2001. If you like fun puns about ‘things developed or his best light’, just ask James. After eloping to Vegas, we made Charleston, SC our home. Our folks like to think we had a grand plan with Charleston becoming a top wedding destination location. The truth is that we scouted three cities and fell in love with Charleston immediately. The charm, streets, vignettes, food, beaches, people and trees had us at hello. We jumped in with weddings. Gradually our couples nudged us into portraits as they started to have babies. Most recently, we moved outside of Summerville so the horses, Harmony and Cruise, could live with us while working in the Charleston, Kiawah, Summerville and IOP areas. GOAL: Captivating images and enjoyable experiences. We aspire to create beautiful images that convey moments, relationships, time… those things that make each situation unique. Part of crafting awesome imagery is a comfort and ease on both sides of the lens. We strive for photo-positive experiences and excellent customer service rooted in good-natured people skills, clear communication and responsiveness. STYLE: Simple, authentic photography paired with each clients' sense of style and personality. Some call it a blend of formal and candids, photojournalism and crafted, traditional and in-the-moment. My new favorite description is pulled from a Nia term ‘form and freedom’.

FAQs 5
- How would you describe your event photography style?
- We document the day with a blend of form and freedom. While photographing our shot-list, we are also looking for the candid moments between so your day unfolds like a story.
- Will you bring an assistant as a supporting photographer?
- We work as a duo and are both professionally trained photographers.
- What is your approach to working with clients?
- We start with listening to find out who you are individually and as a couple. Then we feel out how much direction you want. As a couple ourselves sometimes we say 'try something like this'. Visuals help and usually put the couples at ease to enjoy each other and have fun.
- What venues have you worked at before?
- Downtown: Lowdnes Grove, William Aiken House, The Gibbes Museum, Historic Rice Mill, Upstairs at Midtown, The Aquarium, The Gadsden House and more... Kiawah : River Course, Osprey, Mingo Point, Turtle Point, Ocean Course & The Sanctuary MountP : Dunes West, The Citadel Beach House, Patriots Point...
- Favorite wedding day moment?
- It changes for each wedding because each wedding has it's own magic. Sometimes it is the first look when the groom is overcome. Sometimes it is the father/daughter dance when dad is beaming with pride. Sometimes it is the grand-parents smiling at their grand-kids. Photo-gold is everywhere.
