About Nick Mantzel Photography

Founded in 2000

I fell in love with photography in high school and studied photojournalism in college. Before my wedding photography days, I honed my craft taking portraits – and chasing down breaking news stories for newspapers in my home state of Texas. I’m still a photojournalist at heart; telling your story is the soul of my work. Based in San Diego, I’ve been a professional wedding photographer working throughout California since 2004 and I still find new inspiration at every wedding. I love getting to know the couples I work with and take pride in my ability to capture the heartfelt emotions and unexpected moments that you’ll want to remember forever. Much of my career has been spent contracting for some of the best photography companies in San Diego and I am grateful for the outstanding community of wedding professionals that exists in San Diego. I spend my free time outdoors as much as possible: I’m an avid rock climber, and I love backpacking, camping, sailing and hiking. My wife Katy and my dog Sammy are my best friends!

How would you describe your event photography style?
I’m a photojournalist at heart so aside from the common portraits and details you should expect from any photographer, I aim to capture candid moments throughout the day to tell the full story.
What is your pricing?
My pricing starts at $1,995 and ranges up to $4.995. Typical clients spend around $3,000 for my wedding photography services.
Are you insured?
Yes, I carry a one million dollar policy to cover liability. If your venue requires a certificate of insurance please email me directly with their contact info and who I should list as the “additionally insured” and I can update my policy and provide the COI.
Can we request specific shots?
Absolutely! Usually 2-4 weeks before your wedding or event we will connect to go over the timeline and shot details. This is a great time to relay over any shots you love or hate. You can also email me at any point in time in the process and I’ll update my notes.
Do you carry backup equipment?
Yes! This is critical! I keep a backup camera, memory cards, lenses, flash and batteries on site at every photo shoot. While working every shot is downloaded to two memory cards in the camera and when I get home I immediately download it to two hard drives to ensure that your images are safe!
