About Cauley Square Historic Village
Cauley Square Historic Railroad Village is a glimpse of Old South Florida at its best. Spend the day or a lazy afternoon shopping and casually strolling through the shaded garden paths. It is located within ten acres of lush tropical gardens, foliage, plants and flowers, birds, fountains, sculptures, private patios and a labyrinth of antique and specialty shops. Nestled between the unique treasures of Everglades National Park and Biscayne National Park lies an area rich in history, beauty, tropical climate and tempting food. Discover acres of incredible tropical land, recognized as the Old South Florida. The story began by a tale rooted in agriculture and Henry Flagler’s railroad. Most pioneering farmers who settled south of Miami were glad when the Florida East Coast Railway brought sidings like the one that was operated by a railroad employee named Goulds. In 1903, it was initially referred to as Gould’s Siding, then simply as Goulds. In 2001, Frances Varela purchased Cauley Square. As she watched her adopted region lose section after section of historical architecture. “I wanted to give back to my community,” she said, “to protect this little island.” Although it took ten years, the beautifully re-landscaped grounds, the fountains, the walkways that can accommodate wheelchairs, are all parts of her plan. While the Tea Room continues to be popular, Varela thought something a little less feminine was in order and she renovated another cottage to create the Village Chalet Restaurant. A crowning touch among the twenty-five restored structures is a small chapel that she transformed in gratitude for having a “blessed life”, and as a spot for people to stop into for quiet reflection. Today, Cauley Square continues to thrive as a hidden gem in South Florida. 10 acres of cultivated gardens and historic cottages. With their experienced planning team to provide specialized service, the Cauley Square team will organize your event in order to be a seamless experience. Within the beautiful garden paths meandering through old-fashioned cottages and its massive shade trees you can find unique treasures.
