The Mansfield Art Center sits on 8 wooded acres in Mansfield, Ohio, inside a sculptural white building designed by architect Don Hisaka and completed in 1971. The design earned a Progressive Architecture National Citation Award that same year, and in 2014 the Ohio Historical Society named it one of the top 100 historical buildings in the state. The Center traces its roots to 1945, when it began as the Mansfield Fine Arts Guild, hosting exhibitions and classes around Richland County before settling into its permanent home. Today the Center's gallery spaces and three-season pavilion host weddings, receptions, anniversaries, graduation parties, class reunions, and business meetings amid the building's modern architecture and wooded surroundings. A 2021 expansion added a new Education Wing with vaulted ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows, housing a glassblowing hot shop and ceramic studio alongside the Center's galleries. The facility is wheelchair accessible, with power-assist doors, an elevator connecting its two floors, and accessible restrooms.
