The Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit set on a historic 75-acre former poor farm in Washington County, just outside Abingdon, Virginia. Established in 1958 and serving the region since 1960, the American Camp Association-accredited center is available for rental to businesses, families, and community groups for gatherings such as annual meetings, trainings, family reunions, and weddings, alongside team-building workshops, outdoor leadership programming, and strategic planning retreats. Onsite amenities include a basketball court, a covered pavilion, a swimming pool, outdoor seating areas, and several historic structures spread across the grounds. Overnight groups can choose among the Dickenson Conference Center, which offers private rooms with private bathrooms and a shared common area with a television and WiFi, a hostel-style Lodge with an open common room and bunk-style pods, or cinder block cabins with bunk rooms and a private room option. While food service isn't required of rental groups, the center's chef can accommodate a wide range of catering needs for events of any size. Just three miles from Abingdon's Historic District, the center sits close to the town's artsy, historic downtown and the outdoor recreation of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains, including well-known trout fishing.
