Built between 1903 and 1905 for Frederick Gilbert Bourne — fifth president of the Singer Sewing Machine Company — the castle was designed by architect Ernest Flagg and modeled after a Scottish castle from Sir Walter Scott's novel *Woodstock*. The property features a five-story clock tower with four six-foot clock faces and Westminster chimes, underground tunnels, secret passages, and Italian hand-carved furnishings throughout.
