  West Oakland, California's 16th Street Station is a historic landmark that dates back to the late nineteenth century. At this time, we are not renting the interior space of the building, and we are only renting the area immediately surrounding the building. As a backdrop, the site boasts a magnificent Main Hall that is truly breath-taking. The 16th Street Station will no longer be taking any rental commitments for events that will take place within the Station. Rental of outside areas is still available. Please inquire. The 16th Street Station, which opened on August 1, 1912, marked the beginning of West Oakland as the city's gateway. The Station, which was constructed for $300,000 by the Southern Pacific Railway and designed by Chicago architect Jarvis Hunt, was built by the railroad for $300,000. That same year, the Station was featured in Western Architect magazine. The Station served as the western terminus of the transcontinental railway system, and was the last stop on the Western line. Even as recently as the 1950s, Southern Pacific was one of Oakland's most significant private sector employers. By the 1960s, the railroad company had realized that their primary source of revenue was freight transportation rather than passenger travel. However, in the early years, the usage was quite different from what it is today.

  Our facility can accommodate a wide range of private events such as weddings, business events, birthday and bridal showers, bar/bat mitzvahs, conferences, and more. To avoid having to wash dishes at night for her large family or having to eat hamburger helper (her brother's favorite dish to cook), Linda traded dish duties with her siblings for cooking duties, and developed an intense passion for planning menus, creating recipes, and putting on dinners and events for her family of 15 children. Linda is the mother of 15 children. In her adolescence, she could frequently be found in bookshops reading cookbooks, and she had a cherished memory of reading "The French Laundry Cookbook" for the first time from cover to cover when it was originally published. She made the decision to attend a cooking school shortly after, having no idea that it would turn out to be a career choice. Having been born and reared in Argentina to an American father and a French mother, she comes from a diverse background of cultures and experiences, which contributes to the diverse range of flavors she enjoys putting into her dishes. She moved to the Bay Area when she was 17 years old in order to attend culinary school in San Francisco. After stays in New York and Kansas City, she returned to the Bay Area and began performing at some of the city's most prestigious restaurants, including Masa's, Campton Place, The French Laundry, and Michael Mina's, among others.

The majestic and well-known dome of the Temple crowns the building's soaring interior. The chandeliers in black and gold, as well as the two gorgeous stained glass windows that shine on either side of the room, provide a soft glow to the space. The Martin Meyer Sanctuary is located adjacent to the Main Sanctuary. This facility, which is popular for wedding ceremonies, musical events, and lectures, is equipped with a state-of-the-art sound system, a theatrical lighting system, and acoustics that are well regarded. What ever event we plan, you can be sure it will be one that will be remembered for a long time. Weddings Congregation Emanu-El is committed to making each wedding an authentic reflection of your Jewish religion and dedication to one another. We aim to achieve this goal with every wedding. In the sacred places of our Main and Martin Meyer Sanctuaries, we welcome people of all Jewish faiths and denominations to worship. All of the couples meet with the rabbi or cantor of their choosing to discuss the ritual and significance of the construction of a Jewish home in general. No matter what your religious affiliation, our rabbis and cantor are available to officiate at weddings for Jewish and interfaith couples of either gender. Interfaith couples must agree to meet the Temple's requirements for interfaith marriage before the ceremony can take place.
