A beautiful piece of the Blue Ridge foothills, discovered by J. Willard Marriott Sr. in 1951, reminded him of his boyhood days on his family's farm in Utah, and became the inspiration for the creation of Marriott International. Following his purchase of the property, he began meticulously restoring the primary historic buildings and their surrounding grounds, and he continued to purchase contiguous parcels of land, including Fiery Run Ranch, resulting in the creation of the 4200+/- acre Marriott Ranch. With a modest herd of registered Hereford cattle, a large flock of black-faced sheep, and the breeding of quarter horses, J. Willard was able to bring the farm, which had been known as "Fairfield," back to life over the next few years. Affectionate horseback rider and outdoorsman, J. Willard would spend as much time as he could on his Fauquier County property, noting in his diary, "A beautiful place, hard to leave..." The historic James Marshall Manor House (circa 1814), which serves as the focal point of the Inn at Fairfield Farm, is located in the heart of the 4,200-acre Marriott Ranch and is the centerpiece of the Inn at Fairfield Farm. Visitors are reminded of the true meaning of hospitality by the twelve comfortable bedrooms, afternoon beverage service, and three-course breakfasts served each morning. CHECK OUT OUR B&B When not serving as a retreat for the Marriott family, friends, and associates, the working cattle ranch, which has well over 1,200 head of cattle, is used as a premier Northern Virginia outdoor event site for company picnics, executive meetings, and retreats, as well as weddings and other social gatherings.

The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley sits on 214 acres in Winchester, Virginia, making it the largest green space in the city and pairing a 50,000-square-foot museum building — designed by architect Michael Graves — with the historic Glen Burnie House and six acres of formal gardens. Glen Burnie House, built in 1794, was transformed into a refined home by Julian Wood Glass Jr. and R. Lee Taylor beginning in the 1950s before the museum itself opened in 2005 to share their collection with the public. For private events, the museum offers a range of indoor and outdoor spaces suited to gatherings of different sizes and styles. The beautifully renovated Glen Burnie House, with its formal Drawing Room, Library, and adjacent Terrace, suits an intimate dinner or cocktail reception, with access extended to the surrounding garden rooms. The Glen Burnie Gardens themselves offer settings from the Grand Allee to the more intimate Water Garden for ceremonies and receptions. Inside the museum, the wood-beamed Reception Hall and adjoining lobby and hallways can host larger cocktail-style events, while the Truist Learning Center and Carriage House Classroom provide smaller spaces for meetings, workshops, and luncheons. The museum is a site-only rental, so caterers, tents, and event equipment are arranged through outside vendors, including members of the Shenandoah Wedding Professionals group that the museum regularly partners with.

Fredericksburg Country Club occupies Smithfield, a Virginia estate whose land was first patented in 1671 and whose present mansion house was built in 1819 by John Pratt after fire destroyed the original dwelling. Captain Conway Vance, who bought the property in 1905, added the wings and white columns that still front the clubhouse today. Citizens incorporated the estate as a country club in 1925, and members repurchased it in 1946 as Fredericksburg Country Club following a wartime closure; expansions in 1961, 1973, 1988, and 1998 grew its golf course, dining, and recreation facilities. Today the private club is home to more than 500 members and offers a championship 18-hole golf course, golf practice facilities, an outdoor pool, and tennis and pickleball courts, alongside dining service and a fitness center. For weddings, corporate events, and private celebrations, the club opens its elegant ballroom, scenic outdoor spaces, and intimate dining rooms, with landscaped grounds and the golf course providing a picturesque backdrop for photography. Stable Craft Brewing at Hermitage Hill traces its roots to Hermitage Hill Farm and Stables, founded in 2006 as an operational horse farm where Tennessee Walkers were bred and trained on a property built around a 288-foot barn. The founders transformed the farm into an event venue for weddings, receptions, private parties, and corporate gatherings, and played a role in the Virginia legislation that helped establish agritourism in the state, all while preserving the rural landscape of the Shenandoah Valley. The historic barn has since been renovated into a reception venue that blends rustic architecture -- hand-hewn beams and timber crafted with local artisans -- with heating, air conditioning, and a professional sound system. The property has grown into a destination brewery and cidery alongside its wedding and event business, adding on-site guest suites, a taproom, and an agri-pub style restaurant. Private event spaces include the Saddleback Ballroom, which seats up to 200 guests for weddings and receptions; the climate-controlled Cider House, for gatherings up to 70; and the Brewers Club, an intimate space for parties up to 32. Stable Craft Brewing at Hermitage Hill has been named Brewery of the Year by the Virginia Restaurant, Lodging, and Travel Association and Best Outdoor Dining Venue by Virginia Living.
