Rooted In Activism 2930 E Jefferson began its current chapter as a nexus for the cannabis legalization movement in 2010. After the successful campaign to legalize medical cannabis in 2008, activist attorney Matthew Abel purchased the building in Detroit's Rivertown District as a home for Cannabis Counsel® Law Firm, the oldest and first cannabis only law firm in the country. A Gathering Place For Change The building was a major meeting place for cannabis legalization petitions in 2012, 2016, and the successful 2018 Legalization initiative The building quickly became a space where activists, political leaders, and medical patients could come together, meet, and advocate for change.
