Ghirardelli Square, considered the first successful adaptive reuse project in the country, has a history that spans more than a century and covers three continents. This specialty retail and dining complex, housing shops and restaurants, was originally a chocolate factory established by Domenico “Domingo” Ghirardelli.Born in 1817 in Rapallo, Italy, Ghirardelli served as a Genoa confectioner’s apprentice and at a young age developed a strong interest in the business. He left for Uruguay when he was 20 years old, then sailed around Cape Horn to Peru where he became a coffee and chocolate merchant.James Lick—Ghirardelli’s neighbor in Lima—left for San Francisco in January 1848 taking 600 pounds of Ghirardelli’s chocolate with him. He arrived just thirteen days before the first shiploads of gold-rush pioneers. Lured by his friend’s tales of the gold rush, Ghirardelli joined Lick a year later and opened a general store supplying mustard, coffee, spices and, of course, chocolate. Between 1852 and 1895, Ghirardelli’s Chocolate Factory was located at four different sites before the Ghirardelli Chocolate Company took over the Pioneer Woolen Mills on North Point Street—today’s site of the Ghirardelli Chocolate Manufactory & Soda Fountain and Ghirardelli Ghirardelli delights visitors with its lively retail mix, while maintaining Ghirardelli’s tradition as a trendsetter for the rest of the world. In 1982 the owners applied for and were granted National Historic Register status, a move that ensured the preservation of Ghirardelli Square for future generations. Always on the cutting edge of retailing in the United States, Ghirardelli Square continues to serve as a model for restoration complexes throughout the country such as Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston and Baltimore’s Harborplace.

Mars Bar Restaurant is a great venue located south of market in SF. We have a huge back area that is perfect for bands, DJ's, birthdays, banquets, and many other celebrations. We have two outside patios. The garden patio and the larger under the big top tented patio. The tented patio can be configured for events that are casual to full blown elegance. Venue 412 is a 12,422 sq ft, two-level event venue at 412 Broadway in San Francisco's North Beach, on the edge of the Financial District. We host corporate events, wedding receptions, brand activations, fashion shows, product launches, fundraisers and galas, milestone birthdays, music video shoots, and private buyouts for groups up to 400. The rental includes a full A/V package (PA, professional lighting, video to eleven HD displays, wireless mics, Pioneer DJ booth), in-house catering through our commercial kitchen, two private dressing rooms, four unisex rest rooms, and an artist green room. Located at 608 Commercial Street, this historic venue is just steps away from the Transamerica Pyramid, North Beach, and China Town. The building marks the site of the first U.S. branch mint in the West. Montgomery Street, one-half block away, marks the original waterline of Yerba Buena Cove. Visitors can peer into the underground brick vault where gold was stored. The vault survived the 1906 earthquake and fire. Greens Restaurant is a perfect venue for any type of private event. Wedding receptions large and small, business presentations and meetings, birthday parties, bridal and baby showers, alumni receptions — the list goes on and on. Whatever the event, Greens is the place for it. The entire restaurant is available for a buyout any day or evening. Greens can accommodate up to 140 people for a sit-down meal and 200 people for a standing reception. We also have a beautiful Private Dining Room that can seat up to 50 people, or host a standing reception of up to 70, though we frequently have groups of less than 25. The Private Dining Room has the same expansive views of the San Francisco Bay and the iconic Golden Gate Bridge as our main dining room, but in a more intimate setting. The Private Events Manager at Greens will work with you personally to create an event to your exact specifications. Meal service can include multi-course seated meals, hors d’oeuvres receptions, or a breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner buffet. As is the standard at Greens, our private event menus offer seasonal, organic ingredients sourced locally.

When you organize your private event at the Club, your guests will be treated to panoramic skyline views, renowned architecture, and tantalizing meals, to name a few highlights. From a small library to a huge ballroom, our eight event venues provide a variety of inviting environments. The elegant exterior of the Club was created by renowned architects Walter Bliss and William Faville, who were inspired by the Renaissance's Italianate style to create an attractive, ageless structure. The Clubhouse's beauty and warm ambience are suitable for the Club's various member functions. The University Club of San Francisco was established with the goal of providing a gathering place for alumni from various colleges. The Clubhouse's first location was rented at 722 Sutter Street. It was eventually regarded too tiny to accommodate the rising membership, despite its elegance. In the historic earthquake of 1906, the Club's original location at 722 Sutter was demolished, and the majority of the building was devoured by fire. 800 Powell, once the Stanford Mansion's stables, was chosen as the location for the new Clubhouse. The Club's new edifice was designed by renowned architects Walter Bliss and William Faville.
