The centerpiece of the property is a carefully restored 18th-century German Swiss bank barn, known as The Barn. Its 50-foot ceiling, original mortise-and-tenon timber frame held by wooden pegs, three stone fireplaces, and large glass panels looking out over the 164 acres make it the focal point for weddings and receptions. Beyond the barn, couples choose from six additional outdoor ceremony settings across the property: a forested hollow with streams and fern beds, an open meadow with willow trees and a pond, a hillside amphitheater, a patio framed by two pergolas with farmland views, and the log cottage's garden with a stream and brick walkway.

The History of Rockwood Manor Retreats and Events After leaving Washington, D.C., Carolyn Gangwer Caughey (pronounced "Coy") traveled west along the Old Conduit Road (now MacArthur Boulevard) to her newly purchased estate near Great Falls. Mountains of tall cedars, poplars, and oaks cover rock-studded hillsides that gently slope down to a stream valley. A name for Mrs. Caughey's country estate was suggested to her by the natural elements almost immediately: Rockwood. Carolyn was a well-to-do socialite whose ancestors traced their roots back to the American Revolution. She was also a successful businesswoman who had a passion for architecture and a keen eye for profit in the real estate market. According to Who's Who in the Nation's Capital, she is "active in civic betterment, particularly in relation to better-constructed and better-planned homes," among other things. It also mentions that she was responsible for designing one of the largest apartment buildings in the nation's capital at the time. As a result, many of her close friends were not surprised when she revealed that she had designed and personally supervised the construction of her new home. Visiting auctions and antique dealers in the area on a regular basis assisted her in the furnishing of her country estate. Celebrations This historic manor house, which can accommodate up to 120 guests for a ceremony on the wooded Patio, followed by cocktails on the Veranda and a sit-down dinner in the rustic elegance of Brooke Hall, is the focal point of our property. When the party is over, the Hoover Hall ballroom and festive Sun Porch are transformed into a two-level party space for dessert and dancing. Flexible floor plans allow you to personalize your guests' experience and the flow of your event, allowing you to create an event that is completely unique. The cost of a single day event ranges from $1,660 to $4,600. Please see the rate sheets linked to below for more information. Meetings Because of its close proximity to Bethesda, Tysons, the 270 corridor, and Washington, DC, Rockwood Manor is an excellent choice for your next business meeting. In our six flexible meeting spaces, we can accommodate groups ranging from 12 to 80 people. Alternatively, you can book the entire house for your conference, wellness retreat, or strategic planning sessions. Take, for example, a strategic planning session for your organization that is inspired by a group hike to Great Falls, the rushing Potomac River, and the gentle swaying of the trees. Ask about our customized weekday retreats for business professionals.

Furnace Town Historic Site is a restored 19th-century industrial village set on 25 acres along the Nassawango Creek in Snow Hill, Maryland. At its center stands the Nassawango Iron Furnace, which operated from 1828 to 1850 as the engine of a self-contained company town built by the Maryland Iron Company. About 300 people once lived and worked here — miners, blacksmiths, broom makers, coopers, and weavers among them — before the operation closed and the Pocomoke Forest gradually reclaimed the site. Restoration efforts began in the 1960s under the Worcester County Historical Society, and the Furnace Town Foundation was established in 1982 to preserve and interpret the property. Today the site functions as a living history museum and event venue, with historic structures, artisan workshops, and nature trails winding through the surrounding woodland. The grounds are available for wedding rentals, offering couples a backdrop that combines authentic 19th-century architecture with the quiet landscape of Maryland's Eastern Shore.

Five distinct spaces accommodate gatherings of nearly any size, from intimate dinners to large outdoor celebrations. The Founders Room seats up to 200 and opens to the adjoining Bearman Gallery, while the open-air Promenade and Courtyard can welcome as many as 900 guests for a reception at the water's edge. Cardin Pier extends over the harbor, where working vessels including the tall ship Lady Maryland occasionally dock alongside an event in progress. Catering is provided by an exclusive roster of approved vendors, and all events benefit from four hours of setup time and two hours of breakdown included in the rental.
