A beautiful piece of the Blue Ridge foothills, discovered by J. Willard Marriott Sr. in 1951, reminded him of his boyhood days on his family's farm in Utah, and became the inspiration for the creation of Marriott International. Following his purchase of the property, he began meticulously restoring the primary historic buildings and their surrounding grounds, and he continued to purchase contiguous parcels of land, including Fiery Run Ranch, resulting in the creation of the 4200+/- acre Marriott Ranch. With a modest herd of registered Hereford cattle, a large flock of black-faced sheep, and the breeding of quarter horses, J. Willard was able to bring the farm, which had been known as "Fairfield," back to life over the next few years. Affectionate horseback rider and outdoorsman, J. Willard would spend as much time as he could on his Fauquier County property, noting in his diary, "A beautiful place, hard to leave..." The historic James Marshall Manor House (circa 1814), which serves as the focal point of the Inn at Fairfield Farm, is located in the heart of the 4,200-acre Marriott Ranch and is the centerpiece of the Inn at Fairfield Farm. Visitors are reminded of the true meaning of hospitality by the twelve comfortable bedrooms, afternoon beverage service, and three-course breakfasts served each morning. CHECK OUT OUR B&B When not serving as a retreat for the Marriott family, friends, and associates, the working cattle ranch, which has well over 1,200 head of cattle, is used as a premier Northern Virginia outdoor event site for company picnics, executive meetings, and retreats, as well as weddings and other social gatherings.

The Winery at La Grange sits on land originally part of Robert "King" Carter's Bull Run Tract in Haymarket, Virginia, and traces its centerpiece — a three-story red brick manor house — to builder George Green. Boxwoods planted generations ago have grown to over 20 feet, forming a natural archway along the stone path that connects the manor house to the winery. Benoni E. Harrison purchased the property in 1827 and later served as Prince William County's delegate to the Virginia General Assembly; his name lives on today in Benoni's Lounge, the estate's stone-walled cellar. The winery grows 6.3 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Petit Manseng grapes on the working farm, producing wines described as ones where "every glass tells a story." For weddings, private events, and corporate gatherings, the property's Barn Building serves as its main event space, with suggested floor plans accommodating up to 150 guests and wedding rentals that include the ballroom, bar, bridal suite, patios, kitchen, and grounds.

That We Are We were the ones who bought the farm! The name Belle's Pleasure was inspired by my great grandmother's ancient house in Prince Georges County, Maryland (Bealls Pleasure). As a child, I remember being awed by the big brick home with chandeliers, rich rugs, secret staircases, room after room stuffed with treasures, and the aroma of boxwoods that encircled the secret garden in the back. Even before we found this teeny-tiny slice of heaven we now call home, I knew our farm would be called Belle's Pleasure. This property was first shown to us in the fall of 2016. I went to look at the house with our month-old baby in tow. When I saw the cathedral ceilings at the top of the barn's inner staircase, I knew this was the one! A Smidgeon of Heaven Being here at the farm gives me a special feeling, a serene and peaceful atmosphere that penetrates the entire property. Maybe it's the history; knowing that the old farmhouse at the property's center has stood for almost two centuries gives you a sense of confidence. Maybe it's the rustic beauty of the enormous white barn, which was built by farmers in 1920 as a dairy barn. Several generations have lived and worked on this land over the past 250 years, and this small piece of heaven has been a part of their lives. Please come in and take a look around. The Real Estate Industry With 15 acres of rolling pastures, mature trees, beautiful white fencing, an acre and a half pond with a dock and bridge, the 1920's dairy barn, the historic farmhouse built in 1769, the horse trails and creek that meander through the woods, and the horses, the photo opportunities are infinite. The house is a charming, rustic piece of history. The Wedding Suite is a special place for weddings. Arrive early to relax! Get ready with your bridesmaids in our two-story, two-bathroom bridal suite on the day of your celebration. You'll have everything you need, including numerous mirrors, outlets, and primping areas, as well as a full-size refrigerator, to enjoy getting all dolled up with your closest friends.

Due to the fact that it surrounds a beautifully groomed ceremony site, our Sheila Macqueen garden is an ideal setting for traditional Virginia weddings. History Long Branch has seen it all, including the Civil War, the Reconstruction era, the Great Depression, and two world wars, among other things. Long Branch is significant because of its connection to national, regional, and local historical narratives. It was designated as a Virginia Historic Landmark in 1968 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969, respectively. Robert Carter Burwell, a descendant of Robert "King" Carter, inherited the land in Clarke County, Virginia, in 1788. The land was located along a stream known as Long Branch and was inherited by Robert Carter Burwell. Burwell established a wheat plantation on the land he inherited, employing the labor of enslaved laborers to do the work. Around 1810, he began construction on a mansion on the site, which would be completed in about twenty years. Burwell, with the assistance of a local builder-architect, designed and built the house in accordance with the classical principles suggested to him by Benjamin Henry Latrobe, the architect of the United States Capitol, in a letter dated July 21, 1811, and published in the Journal of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. It was suggested by Latrobe that Burwell include a servant's staircase and that the dining room and chamber be located on the south side of the house. Burwell was unable to incorporate all of Latrobe's recommendations into the final design of Long Branch, but he did include the servant's staircase, which can still be seen today in the building. Burwell did not have much time to enjoy his new home because, while serving in the military during the War of 1812 in the filthy camps around Norfolk, Virginia, he became ill and died.

EVENTS Mt. Defiance is the perfect location for your next private or group event, wedding, or other special occasion. With a big area and facilities, our lovely Cider Barn can accommodate gatherings for up to 200 people. Wedding ceremonies, cocktail receptions, and family pictures can all be held on our expansive porch and patio. Our Philosophy Cider is finally reclaiming its rightful place as America's table drink, a position it had during Colonial times and for much of the nineteenth century to the present. The different schools of thought about cider are evident today, particularly in Virginia where we obtain our apples and produce our cider: from the traditional farm cideries where classic cider apples are pressed and the juice fully fermented with only yeast added, to the cutting edge cider makers who are influenced by the craft beer movement and infuse their ciders with a riotous blend of new and historic natural flavors. Our Ciders are made in small batches. When it comes to our Cidery, Mount Defiance is extremely proud to offer both classic and craft ciders. In addition to traditional farmhouse blends of dry cider and single variety cider, we enjoy infusing fresh ginger for a seriously ginger-flavored cider, as well as a full spectrum of infused and co-fermented ciders ranging from honey (cyser) to blueberries to our five pepper cider, which is designed to withstand barbecues. Every season comes with it a new set of flavors to tempt our clients. Since we feel that there should be a cider to fit a wide variety of tastes and food pairings, our style may best be described as eclectic and approachable. Come pay us a visit and experience the difference for yourself.
