The Barn at Second Wind is a private event venue set on 6 acres of landscaped grounds along River Road, about 15 minutes south of downtown Sacramento. At the entrance stands an 80-year-old Heritage Valley Oak tree, and the centerpiece of the property is a 1940s galvanized metal barn offering 1,800 square feet of event space with polished cement floors, exposed wooden beams, and an original 1940s chandelier. The property accommodates up to 130 guests and provides multiple ceremony settings, including a spot beneath the heritage oak or under a wrought iron arch. Guests gather on the back patio among hay bales between ceremony and reception, and seasonal scenery — spring mustard fields and nearby riverside railroad tracks — adds to the venue's character. Preservation Park is a collection of 16 turn-of-the-century Victorian buildings set in the heart of downtown Oakland, California, two blocks from the 12th Street/City Center BART station. The park traces its roots to the 1870s, when the site flourished as an upscale residential neighborhood of elaborate Victorian homes. By the 1970s, many structures had fallen into disrepair and a proposed freeway threatened what remained. The City of Oakland responded with a public-private partnership that relocated endangered buildings and restored them for commercial use — preserving the facades, period-appropriate landscaping, Victorian-era park benches, and street lamps that define the property today. Together, the buildings offer 55,604 rentable square feet of space for weddings, corporate events, nonprofit gatherings, private celebrations, and meetings.
