The Whittemore House
The Whittemore House is one of the most historically significant and aesthetically pleasing mansions in Washington. Sarah Adams Whittemore, an opera singer, commissioned its construction in the 1890s as a private residence. Founded in 1927, the Women's National Democratic Club has been based in the mansion. Today, we continue to honor and preserve this illustrious history and tradition by preserving a notable collection of antiques, artwork, and political memorabilia. All of Your Event Requirements Are Met The Whittemore House is unique in that we provide a comprehensive range of services and amenities. Whatever you have in mind for your event, our team can make it a reality for you. We provide in-house catering, premium bar packages, A/V systems, and rental equipment for our clients (chairs, tables, utensils, linens, etc.) Our Catering Manager, Ric, will collaborate with you to develop a menu that meets your specific requirements. Mrs. Whittemore's House and the History of Mrs. Whittemore The Whittemore House, designed by architect Harvey Page for opera singer Sarah Adams Whittemore, is located in the heart of the city's historic district. The fact that Mrs. Whittemore was the first woman to use the facility does not imply that she was the last. Womanhood has always been celebrated and empowered at the Whittemore House, whether through song or spoken word performances. For Each and Every Occasion There are nine enchanted rooms of varying sizes, which makes the venue an ideal setting for private parties, weddings, and other special events. Each has its own distinct personality and is tastefully decorated with antiques, artwork, and political memorabilia. There is something unique about this mansion in that none of its public rooms are square or rectangular in shape. A charming courtyard also serves as a comfortable outdoor setting for guests to relax and enjoy themselves.
