This Must Be The Place is a jaw-droppingly stunning wedding and events venue near Barcelona in Spain. Centred around the 18th-century ‘Mas Casamitjana’ farmhouse, the rooms, barns, courtyards and gardens have been lovingly restored in a modern rustic style, by the British owners Jo and Duncan, and carefully designed to offer you several unique spaces to celebrate each element of your event. Oh and the views are to die for, and the sunsets are spectacular! While most venues in this part of the world offer a ‘plan B’ in case of bad weather (sadly it can also rain in Spain, just not that often and not always on the plain), most people regard this venue’s covered space as part of their plan A. ‘Els Graners’ are 3 large double-height conjoined barns that form an L shape and interconnect through a majestic arch. They open out on 2 sides through large bi-fold doors to connect with the central courtyard (‘El Barri’). With these doors closed it can seat up to 150 people for a wedding banquet, open them up and it expands to over 200. Not that you need to banquet here mind you… there are plenty of other options! You might just want to use this space for dancing under the huge mirrorball. To one side of these barns you will find a large yard (‘L’Era’) surrounded by plants, flowers and a pretty stone wall. This large space could be used for a wedding ceremony (featuring their cool triangular arch), for canapés and fizz or for a banquet under the stars – you decide. There is also a smaller building called ‘La Caseta del Sol’ (The Sun House) alongside it that could be used as a bar, chill out area or even as a creche. On another side of the barns you’ll find an outdoor lawned terrace called ‘La Feixa’ – this has amazing views across the rolling Catalan hills with the Pyrenees in the distance and is great spot for a wedding ceremony and/or canapés and fizz. There is also another large grassy space called ‘El Mirador’ – which does what it says (in Spanish)! Simply stunning views! The venue also has 4 large ensuite rooms that are included in the rental price (for 2 nights). Named after jazz legends, and located on the ground floor of the main house, each has been stylishly decorated and comfortably furnished. Between them they hold up to 12 people, and there is also a fantastic self-catering breakfast room. This Must Be The Place has been created by the British owners Jo and Duncan. They came to Barcelona with a dream, and have used their experience in UK music festivals and events (Duncan – Bestival / Camp Bestival) and film production (Jo – films inc ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’), plus a load of hard work, to turn it into a reality. Welcome to the Firehouse Art Studio! A gathering place to celebrate life, community and art in Chicago's oldest firehouse. We are a mission driven organization focused on self expression, opportunity, and empowerment. Today, the Firehouse Art Studio is a gathering place for creative learning and communal celebration, but many visitors may not realize the significance of the building they’re walking into. The Firehouse Art Studio is actually the oldest firehouse in the City of Chicago! It was the first fire station built after the Chicago fire in 1871. It was constructed in 1872 and opened as a Firehouse in 1873. Chicago Fire Department’s Engine 18 moved into the building that year and it remained their home for the next 135 years. The back area of the building was designed for the horses, the front area for the wagons they pulled. The entire second floor was made up of offices and living quarters, each room with its own fire pole so the sleeping firefighters could quickly slide into action. In 1916, the front facade was redesigned and recessed making room for the widening of Roosevelt Rd. and the back of the building was expanded. The floors were reinforced and the overhead doors were enlarged to make room for a new era of fire trucks that would soon replace the horses and wagons. This was the only major alteration in the building’s history and even then, most of the original features were left untouched.
