    The Dossin Great Lakes Museum occupies a 16,000-square-foot building on Belle Isle in Detroit, dedicated to more than 300 years of Great Lakes maritime history and Detroit's role in regional and national shipping. The museum opened on Belle Isle in July 1960, made possible by funding from the Dossin family, and underwent extensive renovations before reopening in 2013. Permanent exhibits include the restored pilot house of the S.S. William Clay Ford, where visitors can stand at the helm of a historic Great Lakes freighter; a restored smoking lounge from the S.S. City of Detroit III, now known as the Gothic Room; the bow anchor of the Edmund Fitzgerald; and the Miss Pepsi championship hydroplane from the 1950s. He was inspired to experiment with clay by his love of gardening, working with the ground, and organic forms. In his modest basement studio, Kaiser began his career more than 20 years ago. He has since developed as an artist as well as a businessman and entrepreneur. He has added gallery owner, curator, teacher, and mentor to his ever-expanding resume. His current workspace and adjacent art gallery, Next Step Studio and Gallery, are located in his own commercial building.

    Philip A. Hart Plaza is a 14-acre outdoor civic space on the Detroit River in downtown Detroit, opened in 1975 and named for late U.S. Senator Philip A. Hart. Designed by Smith, Hinchman, and Grylls with sculptor Isamu Noguchi, the plaza is anchored by the Horace E. Dodge and Son Memorial Fountain — a 30-foot stainless steel fountain with 300 jets and 300 computerized lights — along with the 120-foot stainless steel Pylon. The site marks the location where Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac founded Detroit in 1701, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2024. With a capacity of up to 40,000 guests, Hart Plaza hosts the Detroit International Jazz Festival, Movement Electronic Music Festival, African World Festival, Motor City Pride, and the Windsor–Detroit International Freedom Festival each year.
