The Center for Jewish History in New York City illuminates history, culture, and heritage. The Center provides a collaborative home for five partner organizations: American Jewish Historical Society, American Sephardi Federation, Leo Baeck Institute, Yeshiva University Museum, and YIVO Institute for Jewish Research. The Center for Jewish History is home to the Lillian Goldman Reading Room, Ackman & Ziff Family Genealogy Institute, the David Berg Rare Book Room, and the Collection Management & Conservation Wing. Public programs create opportunities for diverse audiences to explore the rich historical and cultural material that lives within the Center's walls. The Center for Jewish History is conveniently located one block from Union Square. Union Square is the location of the Manhattan Penthouse. Palladian windows, which are found throughout the loft-like space and provide panoramic views of New York City, are installed throughout the building. When Monika Nemeth finished college in Budapest with a major in Hotel and Catering Management, she went to work for Compexpo, where she organized conventions. Her next position was at the Hungarian Pavilion at the 1992 World Exposition in Sevilla, Spain. Monika arrived in the United States in 1994 and began working as the Catering Director at The Downtown Athletic Club in New York City. Her pleasant demeanor, professionalism, and graciousness serve to reinforce the positive attributes of our company. Brian Pancir received classical training at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. He worked as an apprentice in Michelin-starred restaurants throughout Europe before becoming Sous Chef at Jean-Georges for four years in New York City. Mr. Brian has worked as a private chef for a number of celebrities, has advised Trader Joe's and Golden Corral, has served as Culinary Director of Manhattan Star Academy, and has been voted Best Chef by Dan's Paper magazine. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys traveling the world in search of fishing opportunities.

Hortus NYC was crafted to give every guest an individualized, unique experience. The restaurant’s first floor is centered around an open kitchen to create an extra ordinary dining atmosphere. We also have seating available at our Chef’s table for guests to gather and socialize intimately over amazing food and drinks. The second floor is where our main dining room is located. Here, you can order dishes with friends over good food, good drinks and conversations. Hortus is not just about great recipes and excellent ambiance. It starts from the ground up - we pride ourselves in providing a menu that delights the palate while celebrating sustainable and seasonal ingredients. We aim to push people to experience Asian flavors in a new-American style. Design: The name Hortus, Latin for garden, reflects the emphasis on freshness, and the theme of the garden runs through the interior. Hortus is a garden of earthly and ethereal delights. The contemporary design is stylish and comfortable. Divided into four distinct areas, the first floor is dedicated to bar dining with an open kitchen and a Chef’s Table for intimate group dining and special tasting menus. The second floor contains a sun-lit lounge where waiting for a table with a view of the adjoining outdoor garden is a pleasure—and a perfect place to enjoy small plates and afternoon tea (beginning in Fall 2018). The garden dining area offers shade in the summer and will be enclosed for Winter. The main dining room, also on the second floor, greets you with hunter green walls, innovative lighting fixtures, silver-blue velvety chairs and cozy round banquets ideally suited to sharing food and conversation. The ceramic dishes in earthy tones of green, blue and gray, add another level of sophistication to the experience. Even the restrooms feel like a garden with verdant green living walls.
