Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden is a two-acre historic garden estate in a residential neighborhood of Pasadena, California, available for private events and special celebrations. Designed by renowned landscape architect Kinzuchi Fujii between 1935 and 1940 for Charles and Ellamae Storrier Stearns, it is recognized as the only intact example in the United States of a major Japanese-style garden created for a private residence in the years leading up to World War II. Following a comprehensive restoration completed in 2013 under the direction of Dr. Takeo Uesugi of Cal Poly Pomona, the property was reimagined as a shared space for the community. The garden features a hill-and-pond stroll garden with a 25-foot waterfall, an arched wooden bridge, Japanese granite statuary, and a formal teahouse overlooking the pond — all framed by mature sycamore, oak, and Japanese maple trees. Miller Foundation, which they established in memory of their parents. At this time, we are unable to accommodate docent-led tours due to a lack of available space. When planning to visit the Garden during regular hours, groups of 15 or more people must contact the Garden in advance by phone (562) 985-8420 or email (jgcoordinators@csulb.edu), regardless of whether or not a docent-led tour is requested. A minimum of two weeks notice is required, and group visits may be subject to a fee if they are not pre-arranged. Joan Milke Flores Park is a coastal outdoor venue operated by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, situated along Paseo Del Mar in the San Pedro neighborhood of Los Angeles. Perched above the Pacific, the park offers sweeping ocean views extending toward Catalina Island, making it a distinctive setting for outdoor ceremonies, picnics, and community celebrations. The park features expansive open grass areas, shaded tree coverage, picnic tables, and paved pathways, along with hiking, jogging, and biking trails throughout the grounds. Rescued from demolition in 2012 and carefully restored, the property retains its Old Hollywood garden character while welcoming a new generation of private events.
