The Venetian Pool is unlike any other swimming pool in the country. Hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over the world have visited the City of Coral Gables, and it is still one of the most popular tourist destinations. The pool was built from a coral rock quarry in 1923, and much of the original coral rock was used to border and emphasize the pool. It also has two big medieval lookout towers offering panoramic views of the city. The spring water from an underground aquifer is used to fill the 820,000 gallon pool. The pool is filled and emptied on a daily basis during the spring and summer seasons! The aquifer, of course, isn't the only thing that improves a visitor's experience. There are two waterfalls that provide a scenic backdrop as well as the cave-like grottos which provide a fun experience for swimmers. I opened The River Oyster Bar fifteen years ago with the idea of creating a local bistro that serves high-quality oysters and seafood in a comfortable setting with friendly knowledgeable service. Till this day we go to great lengths, working with several purveyors, fishermen and farmers to source the finest sustainable, local when possible seafood available, we purchase only whole fresh fish and butcher in-house, this allows us to maintain the highest quality. Our oysters are flown in from all over the United States in many cases directly from the farm where they are raised in pristine waters, tagged with the harvest area and date to ensure the highest quality and safety. We continuously educate our staff so that they can speak to our guests about our cuisine, wine, and spirits in an informative manner. If oysters and seafood is not your thing, don’t fret, we put as much effort into our non-seafood cuisine.
