Cipriani 42nd Street, formerly known as the Bowery Savings Bank, is a national landmark conveniently located adjacent to Grand Central Station. Cipriani 42nd Street features a four-story banquet room with exquisite marble columns extending to ceiling heights that reach 65 feet. The random use of marbles of many colors inhabits nearly every architectural element and detail of the room and its furnishings. The entire banking room floor of Cipriani 42nd Street is of polychrome marble cosmato work laid in geometric patterns with broad borders of 'Traneville' cream marble. Three patterns - Hexagon, Lozenge/Star, and Lozenge/Square - alternate in the marble floor within the five arched bays that compose the room's east and west walls. Hutong can be hired exclusively for up to 140 seated and 500 standing. With 25 years under its belt, Merchants is still committed to providing "great, polite, courteous, and attentive service." Merchants offers traditional American cuisine, a sizable wine selection, and specially prepared cocktails in a stylishly furnished modern setting, making it the perfect place for both dining and drinking. There are numerous private party rooms at Merchants that can hold groups of 20 to 200 people. The Center for Jewish History is home to the Lillian Goldman Reading Room, Ackman & Ziff Family Genealogy Institute, the David Berg Rare Book Room, and the Collection Management & Conservation Wing.
