EVENTS Mt. Defiance is the perfect location for your next private or group event, wedding, or other special occasion. With a big area and facilities, our lovely Cider Barn can accommodate gatherings for up to 200 people. Wedding ceremonies, cocktail receptions, and family pictures can all be held on our expansive porch and patio. Our Philosophy Cider is finally reclaiming its rightful place as America's table drink, a position it had during Colonial times and for much of the nineteenth century to the present. The different schools of thought about cider are evident today, particularly in Virginia where we obtain our apples and produce our cider: from the traditional farm cideries where classic cider apples are pressed and the juice fully fermented with only yeast added, to the cutting edge cider makers who are influenced by the craft beer movement and infuse their ciders with a riotous blend of new and historic natural flavors. Our Ciders are made in small batches. When it comes to our Cidery, Mount Defiance is extremely proud to offer both classic and craft ciders. In addition to traditional farmhouse blends of dry cider and single variety cider, we enjoy infusing fresh ginger for a seriously ginger-flavored cider, as well as a full spectrum of infused and co-fermented ciders ranging from honey (cyser) to blueberries to our five pepper cider, which is designed to withstand barbecues. Every season comes with it a new set of flavors to tempt our clients. Since we feel that there should be a cider to fit a wide variety of tastes and food pairings, our style may best be described as eclectic and approachable. The Military Aviation Museum sits on a private grass airfield in Virginia Beach, home to one of the world's largest collections of flying vintage military aircraft from the WWI and WWII eras. Originally the private collection of Virginia Beach businessman Gerald Yagen, the museum opened to the public in 2008 and today welcomes more than 85,000 visitors a year to see warbirds maintained in operational, flying condition rather than kept as static displays. The campus blends museum galleries with authentic historic structures relocated from overseas, including the Goxhill Watch Office, a former U.S. 8th Air Force control tower from England, and Halle 6 Cottbus, a German airfield hangar that still bears battle damage from 1945. Two 15,000-square-foot hangars, each accommodating up to 600 guests, offer climate-controlled indoor space for weddings, corporate events, and holiday parties, while the historic WWI Hangar and the open museum grounds provide rustic and outdoor alternatives for events as large as 5,000 with tents and staging. The museum can also add a private aircraft demonstration to an event rental, giving guests a warbird flyover as part of their evening.

The Wake County Shrine Club is a fully functional rental facility in Raleigh, chartered by Amran Temple and open to the public for private events. The split-level space spans up to 12,000 square feet and accommodates up to 440 guests for seated events — including weddings and receptions, proms, class reunions, banquets, and corporate meetings and conferences. The main exhibit hall features a large dance floor, a full stage with a built-in sound system, a full bar with an ABC liquor license, a kitchen, and coat check. An in-house event coordinator assists with seating arrangements, and outside caterers and music vendors are welcome. The property includes 129 marked parking spaces and a well-maintained landscaped lawn.

For more than 16 years, Trummer's has been a dining destination on Main Street in historic Clifton, Virginia, a small town with Civil War roots. Founded by husband-and-wife team Victoria and Stefan Trummer, the restaurant pairs small-town warmth with a level of cuisine and service more often found in major food cities. Executive Chef Zach Ridenhour leads a seasonal American menu built on partnerships with Virginia's small farmers and purveyors, including fresh seafood, local pork, and dishes from the restaurant's French rotisserie. Co-owner Stefan Trummer, a noted mixologist, oversees the craft cocktail program, and Trummer's holds one of the largest wine cellars in the Mid-Atlantic, with room for more than 8,000 bottles in a glass-enclosed wine tasting room complete with a communal tasting table. Minton's Playhouse in Harlem, New York, is considered to be one of the most important shrines in the history of jazz, and this can be argued with equal force. In a sense, Minton's was the birthplace of Bebop; in a more literal sense, it was the place where the foundations of modern jazz were laid. It was founded in 1938 by the saxophonist Henry Minton (from whom the establishment took its name), and over the next decade, Minton's Playhouse became the scene of a revolutionary shift in jazz performance. Minton's Playhouse is regarded as a pivotal location in the history of jazz in New York City. Family owned and run, Ismail and Betul Uslu are the owners of Agora DC and Agora Tysons. Ismail worked tirelessly for three years, devoting his time and energy to improving every aspect of Agora. In 2008, he made the decision to take a leap of faith and purchase the entire company, Agora DC. As of 2016, Betul had decided to leave her banking career to devote her full attention to her roles at Agora DC and Agora Tysons. Betul specializes in private events, whereas Ismail is more focused on restaurant operations and bringing the essence and soul of the places he works by bringing his Turkish culture and hospitality to the United States and Canada. Ismet Sahin, the Executive Chef, was born and raised in Marmaris, Turkey, and he introduces us to the country's diverse cuisine and gastronomy. Ismet Chef hails from the same region of Turkey as Ismail Uslu, and the energy at Agora is a perfect match for their personalities and styles. He began his career at Agora DC and, as his career progressed, he assumed responsibility for both Agora's DC and Tysons. Ismet's various ventures in Turkey, including his work with chefs at five-star hotels, have added a great deal of flavor to Agora and expanded the variety of food options available. Modena serves Italian-inspired cuisine that draws heavily on seasonal and regionally sourced ingredients to create a unique dining experience. Modena achieves a harmonious balance between classic cuisine and a contemporary approach, which is further enhanced by Chef John Melfi's passionate and creative touch. Visitors to Modena will be enticed to indulge in the platter of antipasti served family-style, with three to six selections available daily until supplies are depleted. In order to provide a sweet ending, Amaretti cookies will be served, as they are a staple throughout Italy and make for a delicious way to conclude the meal. With a high-style Milano design and a variety of private dining options, Executive Chef John Melfi is in charge of the culinary operations. A semi-private dining area for up to 12 guests is defined by a dramatic stainless steel beaded curtain that frames the space. In addition, the restaurant has a large private dining room with two walls of expansive windows and 13-foot ceilings that can seat 48 people and comfortably accommodate up to 80 people for a reception or other event. Set within the serene 1,700 acres of Fort Harrison State Park in Lawrence, Indiana, the Garrison Conference Center occupies a historic limestone campus originally built in the 1940s as the Officer's Club at Fort Benjamin Harrison. When Indiana acquired the property in 1995 after the base closed, the buildings were preserved and reopened as a state park inn and event destination — just 13 miles from downtown Indianapolis. The center's two event facilities together offer nine rooms suited to gatherings of all sizes. The Fort Event Center houses the Blue Heron Ballroom, which accommodates up to 320 guests and opens onto a patio above the golf course practice green, plus three additional meeting rooms ranging from 40 to 100 guests. With a combination of bright natural light and rich woodwork, it offers a variety of options for accommodating up to 125 guests in comfort and style. In addition to a 1910 farm house, a ceremony lawn, and a cocktail area, your venue options include: The expansive property features rolling hills and expansive wooded areas near the base of the Blue Ridge mountains, and it is surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains. Its three barns, two houses, and cottage are all set in a tranquil setting with no one else around. The original dairy barn on the property was built in the early 1940s. Authentic charm is provided by the original features, while modern amenities add a touch of casual elegance to the setting. The main event spaces on each of our dual levels are nearly 2,000 square feet on each level. Vizcaya Villa is a lakeside wedding and event venue set on a landscaped property in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The venue accommodates up to 132 guests and hosts one event at a time, offering complete privacy for each celebration. The primary indoor reception space is the Ballroom, which features a full bar and a large catering kitchen. For ceremonies, the property offers multiple outdoor sites alongside a covered Lakeside Pavilion that also serves as a rain-day backup. Lakeview Farms Events is a rustic barn wedding venue set on a 130-acre historic horse farm in Dover, Pennsylvania, with views of a lake and surrounding pastureland. Founded in 2012 by photographer Deb Snyder, who converted her family's barn after attending a wedding showcase, it became the first barn wedding venue in York County and expanded its stone barn structure in 2013. The climate-controlled stone barn hosts receptions for up to 250 guests and features string lighting, a lofted DJ area, and a covered patio for cocktail hour, while a separate outdoor ceremony site offers a wooden arbor, bench seating, and views across the property toward the lake and fenced fields. Couples getting ready on-site can use dedicated bridal and groom's suites, including a hair and makeup studio. Rental packages include tables and chairs with setup and teardown, day-of coordination, and a decor "Borrow Room" stocked with items couples can use at no added cost. River Glen Country Club is a golf course venue in Fishers, Indiana, about 15 minutes north of downtown Indianapolis. The clubhouse sits above an 18-hole golf course along the White River tree line, with pond views and sweeping fall sunsets that the venue is known for throughout central Indiana. The property underwent a full renovation in 2026. Known as "The Gem of the Mountains," the property has served as a wedding venue and retreat for decades and has hosted regional business figures and two U.S. presidents, Dwight D. Eisenhower and Richard Nixon. Fernstone Retreat was featured in The Knot's "Best of" magazine from 2015 to 2022. The retreat's hand-timbered Grand Oak Pavilion, built around a 400-year-old oak tree on the property, seats up to 250 guests and anchors weddings ranging from casual barbecue-style celebrations to black-tie affairs. Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve is a 134-acre native plant sanctuary in Bucks County's Pidcock Creek Valley, near Washington Crossing Historic Park, where over 700 species native to Pennsylvania grow across roughly 4.5 miles of trails through forest, meadow, and streamside habitat. Established in 1934 as a memorial to the Revolutionary War patriots who camped in the area with George Washington's army, the preserve has grown into an accredited botanical garden built almost entirely around native plantings first established under botanist Dr. Edgar T. Wherry. For weddings and private events, the grounds offer several distinct outdoor settings, from the timber-framed Moore Pavilion, which seats up to 200 with picnic tables and a wood-burning fireplace, to the stone-patio Pond area, the wooded Gazebo, and the Stone Bridge over Pidcock Creek for smaller ceremonies. Tent rentals through the preserve's event partner can accommodate gatherings of up to 350. Special events at the preserve are managed by its exclusive event partner, Open Aire Affairs.

Dutch's Daughter Restaurant is a full-service event venue and restaurant in Frederick, Maryland, established in 1984 and named by owner Eileen Gideon in tribute to her father, Fred "Dutch" Onderdonk. The current location on Himes Avenue has been welcoming guests since 2000, and the restaurant has earned Frederick Magazine's Best of Frederick recognition five consecutive years running.
