Truro Vineyards of Cape Cod occupies a restored 1830s farmhouse on the Outer Cape in North Truro, Massachusetts, set among cultivated vineyard rows and framed by a 200-year-old mulberry tree. The property also houses South Hollow Spirits, a working distillery that produces Twenty Boat Rums and Dry Line Gin using a 250-gallon copper pot still — making it one of the few venues on Cape Cod where guests can experience both winemaking and craft distilling in a single setting. Martha’s Vineyard’s oldest continuously working family farm, the Allen Farm in Chilmark consists of 100 acres of rolling pastures and meadows bounded by historic stonewalls, upper Chilmark Pond and the Atlantic Ocean beyond. Jonathan Allen originally purchased the farm in 1762, and ten years later his oldest son, Tristram, built the timber-framed farmhouse, which still sits just off of South Road in Chilmark. We restored the house in 1998, incorporating grey water and Clivus Multrum composting systems into the ancient fabric of the historic structure. The farmhouse and all its attendant outbuildings are very representative of the heritage of traditional New England farmsteads. In 1975 Clarissa Allen, then in her early twenties, inherited the farm and together with her husband Mitchell Posin, they began the difficult and challenging task of bringing to fruition their vision for a viable and sustainable working farm.

The inn's simple accommodations, perched at the Vineyard Sound since 1950, provide a quiet respite and the stillness of up-island living. In the 350-year-old fishing village of Menemsha, a path winding past our chickens leads down to the beach. Rooms, private cottages, and houses are among the lodging options. Nestled along the banks of the Nunckatessett River in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, the Nunckatessett Canoe Club was originally built in 1904 as a storage facility for 63 canoes. It offered members a place to keep their canoes while enjoying the scenic beauty of the river and the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts. In 1915, the club relocated and expanded, adding a second story to accommodate more canoes and a spacious assembly hall for dancing. Unfortunately, just two years later, the new building was destroyed by a fire. Despite this setback, the Nunckatessett Canoe Club became a popular venue for large social gatherings and dances over the following decades. It hosted legendary performers like Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Frank Sinatra, and Rosemary Clooney, making it a cherished spot for music and celebration.

Maritime traffic had expanded to the point where Peleg Coffin of Nantucket addressed his Congressman in 1796, requesting that a light be placed at Gay Head because both islands were heavily involved in the whaling industry. President John Adams signed a contract with Hingham's Martin Lincoln to construct a timber lighthouse with a keeper's cottage and outbuildings. The light was turned on for the first time on November 7, 1799. Paul Revere supplied some copper and tin to supplement the Light's weatherproofing after it was constructed. The historically significant Vanderhoop Homestead, which dates back to as early as 1850 and can be seen inside the Aquinnah Circle, is also the location of the Aquinnah Cultural Center. The grounds and the stone terrace are accessible for use for events, however the Cultural Center and the building themselves are not. The Cultural Center and its grounds, like the Lighthouse, look out over the stunning clay cliffs and are conveniently located within walking distance of a number of restaurants, stores, and Moshup Beach (public beach). Scott has been a chef for the last 18 years and has worked at various restaurants in New York City that have earned a Michelin star. Some of these places include Jean-Georges flagship restaurant on Columbus circle and Charlie Palmer's Aureole. His most recent position was as executive chef at Sutton Inn, where he was awarded two Michelin recommendations, a four-star rating from the Daily News, and was named one of Manhattan's top 10 American restaurants by OpenTable for five years in a row. In 1971, we constructed the first version of this home on property that belonged to the family... I have been a permanent resident of this area ever since that time. In 1989, we completely refurbished the home and expanded on to it in order to turn it into a seven-room inn that is light, clean, and spacious. The structure has always had an expansive covered wrap-around porch on the east and north sides. This porch, combined with the other common spaces and lawns, provides sufficient room for visitors to enjoy an evening of unhurried activity. As a result of our location at the very western tip of the island, we are privy to some of the most breathtaking scenery, panoramas, beach breezes, and sunsets in all of Martha's Vineyard.

With the town only being a couple of miles wide, you are not far from the Bay or Ocean. The Bay offers great walking/exploring of the flats at low tide and is an easy walk from our rental properties and the ocean is only a short drive or bike ride away. Our homes in Eastham are within walking distance to the Cape Cod Rail Trail bike path. Also close by is the Hemingway Landing, where you can dig your own shellfish, or drop a small boat and go striper fishing in Town Cove. Down the road is the Wellfleet Drive-In Theatre that offers the infamous flea market by day and movie by night. Provincetown is only a 20- to 30-minute drive away and a great place to book a Whale Watch. There are several festivals that occur in Eastham and the surrounding towns throughout the year. There are also numerous hiking trails at the Wellfleet Audubon Society nearby and a one of a kind experience at the National Seashore.
