The museum now boasts a remarkable permanent collection of more than 40,000 pieces, making it one of the largest in the world. As the collection continues to grow and expand, it will surpass all expectations as one of the most important art museums in the South. It is known for its outstanding strengths in French and American art, photography, glass, African and Japanese works, and continues to expand and grow. The twelve-acre Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden at NOMA is one of the most significant sculpture installations in the United States, with over 90 sculptures set among meandering footpaths, reflecting lagoons, Spanish moss-laden 200-year-old live oaks, mature pines, magnolias, camellias, and pedestrian bridges. The sculpture garden is one of the most important sculpture installations in the United States, with over 90 sculptures set among meandering footpaths, PURPOSE: We hope to inspire and celebrate people's appreciation of art. MISSION We are dedicated to the preservation, presentation, and enrichment of our collections and internationally recognized sculpture garden; providing innovative learning and interpreting experiences; and unifying, motivating, and engaging people from all walks of life and backgrounds. 2336 Esplanade Ave, New Orleans, LA 70119, USA
    • Spaces for 75-200 Guests
    • 1 Event Space

Le Musée, the Greek Revival residence at 2336 Esplanade Avenue, and its vicinity, centered in the area known as upper Treme, were originally part of the plantation of Domingo Fleitas. Fleitas, a Spanish colonial who had fought with Galvez in the American Revolution, had grandchildren born free people of color. This stretch of Esplanade Avenue, mid-way between the Mississippi River and Bayou St. John, was not developed until the 1850s when Benjamin Rodriguez, a Jewish speculator who also owned the Esplanade omnibus, began acquiring lots in the area. Rodriguez first built his home at 2306 Esplanade, where the Musson family later lived for a period of time and their cousin Edgar Degas, the acclaimed French artist, visited. In 1859, Rodriguez contracted with Joseph Jouet, the same builder who constructed the famed French Hospital, to build the house at 2336. Though this residence was never owned by persons of color until its present ones, because of their dominance in the building trades, it can be assumed that they participated in the construction. Esplanade Avenue has always been noted for its gracious homes and abundant greenery. Little known is that free people of color owned numerous properties along the avenue and its intersecting streets in the antebellum period

The Presbytère’s two permanent exhibits tell two sides of the ongoing Louisiana story—one of celebration and one of resilience. Mardi Gras: It’s Carnival Time in Louisiana offers a window into the annual celebration and riotous rituals of Mardi Gras, a festival that is inextricably woven into Louisiana’s way of life and whose roots extend deep into the Middle Ages. There are parade floats to climb, costumes to see and historical throws on display as well as rare glimpses into the secretive social club society from which modern-day Mardi Gras krewes evolved. And it’s not a party without music: Mardi Gras albums, records, sheet music and more are also part of the collection. The Living with Hurricanes: Katrina and Beyond exhibit tells of rescue, rebuilding and renewal. When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans’ badly engineered levee system, it resulted in one of the worst disasters in American history, leaving 80 percent of the city flooded and hundreds dead. The exhibit documents the event, the aftermath and southeast Louisiana’s ongoing recovery. With interactive exhibits and artifacts that showcase the spirit of the city’s residents, this is a collection you don’t want to miss.

    Etoile Polaire

1433 N Rampart St, New Orleans, LA 70116, USA

During the late 1800s and early 1900s, this Masonic hall was used for a variety of social events including dances, some of which featured ragtime and jazz musicians. The lodge was a prominent white Creole association that was established at this location in 1794. Among its members was W.C.C. Claiborne, who served as Louisiana's first governor. The first floor was used for public gatherings, while the second floor was reserved for private lodge functions. Rituals were performed in French until the 1950s, when the language was switched to English. The building is an impressive example of the Greek Revival style; it has three bays and two stories and was built around the year 1840. Both the building and the cast iron gate along Rampart Street, which was constructed in the 1880s, are decorated with Masonic symbols. Today, guests continue to stay at the lodge. The Lodge has a rich history that makes its interior shine with one-of-a-kind details that cannot be found in any other venue that is available for rental. This expansive and historically significant property was founded in 1794 and chartered by the Grand Lodge of Louisiana in 1812, the same year that the state of Louisiana was admitted to the Union. If the exterior space is used, the property can accommodate as many as 300 people.
