  Established in 1859 by William and Mary Menger on Alamo Plaza, the Menger Hotel is the oldest continuously operating hotel west of the Mississippi and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1975. The hotel began as a two-story, fifty-room property built to house guests of Menger's adjoining brewery, and grew through a series of additions, including the 1881 acquisition by Major J.H. Kampmann, who added new wings and the hotel's famed cherry-wood bar, modeled after the taproom of London's House of Lords Club. That bar, now known as the Menger Bar, is where Theodore Roosevelt recruited his Rough Riders, and it remains a centerpiece of the hotel's Victorian-era lobby, filled with museum-quality artifacts and Renaissance-revival detailing from a 1909 renovation. Just off the lobby, the Spanish courtyard garden offers palm trees, blooming azaleas, and a three-tiered fountain, alongside a heated pool described as the largest in San Antonio. She and her husband, Al Kutac, bought a camp house and liked entertaining family and friends. This was dubbed "Kutac's Camp House." David married Donna Hrncir, who was never permitted to attend a Kutac party because her mother thought the Kutac lad was too wild! David and Donna built a house on the property's rear half, and their five children loved building trails and playing in the woods. All five children have agreed to assist in the construction and/or operation of The Rustic Chandelier. The Rustic Chandelier is huge enough for a major wedding but small enough for smaller gatherings like family reunions, dinner parties, birthday parties, class reunions, corporate events and retreats, and more.   The Surrey House is a big historic residence that was constructed around 1910. It has withstood a century of tornadoes, fires, and other natural calamities to become one of the most well-known wedding venues in the North Dallas community. A complete renovation of the facility was carried out in 1998, and a partial renovation was carried out in 2011. Just a few blocks south of the old town center and the magnificently renovated county courthouse, you'll find this stunning residence in McKinney's historic area. Behind the main home is a big deck that overlooks the rear yard and a wedding gazebo that was expressly created for the occasion. Brides and bridesmaids can get ready for their special moments in the bridal cottage, which is located at the southern end of the backyard on the south side.
