The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and recognized as a National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom site — the Barnes family sheltered freedom seekers in the basement and carriage house and hosted prominent abolitionist figures including Rev. Samuel Joseph May, Garrett Smith, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. The George and Rebecca Barnes Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, assumed stewardship in 2009 and maintains the property as both a museum and a venue for private events. The mansion accommodates gatherings of up to 85 guests across its main level and outdoor grounds, which include an original gazebo from the late 1800s.
