ABOUT MENLO CIRCUS CLUB A group of young girls met on an Atherton Estate around 1920 to ride their horses and play. These girls created a "club" and decided to put on a circus for the delight of their parents, friends, and neighbors, as young children do. The mother of one of the girls, Mrs. W. B. Weir, offered that the revenues of the circus be donated to the Stanford Convalescent Home (now known as Lucile Packard Children's Hospital). The first circus was hosted on the W. B. Weir property at Middlefield Road and Glenwood Avenue in the summer of 1920. Youngsters rode their own horses and ponies, while others brought along pet cats, goats, and dogs that they had trained to perform stunts. The Stanford Convalescent Home received $500 from the first circus. The circus flourished the following year. Adults turned the circus into a social gathering, attracting visitors from as far north as San Francisco and south as San Jose. The circus grew in size, as did the social event, in the third year, and it became clear to parents that the circus had overrun the two fields. Land was purchased in the fall of 1922 for the creation of the Menlo Circus Club, which was formed the following year. Callippe Preserve Golf Course is an 18-hole championship golf and event venue nestled above the golden hills of Pleasanton's Tri-Valley, with panoramic views of Mount Diablo and the oak-studded valley below. Opened in 2005 and designed by Brian Costello of JMP Golf Design Group, the course is woven through a natural preserve that is home to the rare Callippe silverspot butterfly — lending the property a distinctive setting unlike most golf facilities. Quail Hollow Ranch County Park is a 300-acre historic horse ranch and nature preserve nestled deep in the Santa Cruz Mountains near Felton, California. Acquired by Santa Cruz County in 1986, the property traces its roots to 1866 and was once owned by the Lane family — publishers of Sunset Magazine — who developed it as a working ranch from 1937 through 1991. That history is woven into the ranch house's architecture and decor, giving every event a sense of place that purpose-built venues rarely offer. Two distinct settings accommodate different group sizes and seasons. The historic ranch house and its rambling oak-shaded porch host indoor gatherings of up to 50 guests year-round, while the spacious lawn — framed by an apple orchard, a pond edged with red willows, and forested mountain ridgelines — accommodates up to 120 guests for outdoor celebrations from April through October. Rentals include 100 white stacking chairs, 15 rectangular banquet tables, 10 picnic tables, and reserved parking for 50 vehicles. Quail Hollow Ranch is available for weddings, receptions, and private celebrations. Catering is bring-your-own, and beer, wine, and champagne service is permitted with an alcohol permit.

Our History The Club at Castlewood traces its origins to the famous Hacienda del Pozo de Verona estate, which was built by George and Phoebe Hearst, the parents of publishing mogul William Randolph Hearst. From 1891 to 1919, Phoebe Hearst's Hacienda, created by Julia Morgan, served as her house and sanctuary. At "the house of hospitality." hosting parties and gatherings for up to 300 people was normal. In the 53 room mansion, the Hearst's reputation for throwing a grand party was certainly upheld. Local businessmen bought the land in 1924, and the mansion served as the clubhouse for the original Castlewood Country Club. The name was chosen because it matched Phoebe's home's wooded hills and castle like aspect. Private Events at The Club at Castlewood: There is no such thing as a huge plan or a little gathering. San Mateo County History Museum occupies the restored historic courthouse at 2200 Broadway in downtown Redwood City, a landmark Beaux-Arts building with a stained glass dome, mosaic tile floors, and stately marble columns. The museum has been operated by the San Mateo County Historical Association since 1935 and holds accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums — a distinction held since 1972, placing it among fewer than 5% of accredited museums in the United States. The courthouse offers several distinct rental spaces for weddings, corporate gatherings, and private celebrations. The First Floor Rotunda accommodates up to 200 guests beneath its magnificent domed ceiling, and is well suited for ceremonies, receptions, and dancing. Courtroom A, a magnificently restored courtroom with its own stained glass ceiling, hosts seated dinners of up to 150 guests. The venue also offers a Carriage House with a catering kitchen, a meeting room, and an option to rent the entire courthouse for larger events.
