The Otto Kahn & James Burden Mansions

    7 E 91st St, New York, NY 10128, USA
    • Spaces for 250 Guests

The wedding of Otto Kahn and Adelaide Wolff took place on January 8, 1896. When they commissioned renowned architects C.P.H. Gilbert and J. Armstrong Stenhouse to design and build their private residence, they requested that no expense be spared in the construction. "It's a sin to sit on one's money," said Kahn, and as a result, their home in Manhattan became one of the largest private residences ever built in the city in 1918. The exterior of the building, which was constructed of French limestone imported from St. Quentin, is distinguished by its simplicity and dignity. The beauty inherent in Italian sixteenth-century architecture is demonstrated by the pilasters adorning the exterior of the second-floor balcony. The interior stairwell, halls, and entrance are all made of caen stone, and they have been finished with great care and consideration for detail. A replica of the Papal Chancellery in Rome was used in the construction of the structure. In addition to music, architecture, and painting, Mr. Kahn was a notable patron of the arts in general. He frequently hosted concerts and exhibitions of his treasures in his home, which drew a large number of visitors. Otto Kahn had his own music room built, complete with an Adam's ceiling, which allowed sound to easily circulate throughout the space. Musicians who have performed for Otto Kahn have included George Gershwin and Enrico Caruso, among others. It was only a few years after Mr. Kahn's death that the Convent of the Sacred Heart was able to purchase the mansion. It is now the location of Sacred Heart's upper and middle schools, respectively. The building at 7 East 91st Street was built in 1901 by William Sloane as a wedding gift for his daughter Adele, who had married steel manufacturer James Burden the year before. This mansion, designed by Warren and Wetmore, the same architects who designed New York's Grand Central Station, was designated as a historic site in 1974. The ballroom is located on the third floor, rather than the traditional first or second floor locations, thanks to an innovative design. To get to the top, a rotunda displays the beginning of the grand spiral staircase made of Hauteville marble, which leads to the observation deck. There is a beautiful mural by French artist Hector d'Espouy on the ceiling above, which is bordered by a Tiffany stained-glass ceiling light. Adele was well-known for hosting extravagant parties in the splendor of her French-inspired rooms. The formal banquet hall has walls made of Campan vert marble and a detailed ceiling depicting floral arrangements, which is a focal point of the event. Bonanno's painting of an old Italian garden, which stands twelve feet tall on the Northern wall, has remained in place to this day. These ballrooms are surrounded by twelve-foot-high doors paneled with oblong mirrors, which are modeled after the Galeries des Glaces at the Palace of Versailles. Mark Twain and Giacomo Puccini are just a few of the famous people who have graced these rooms. The house was purchased by the Convent of the Sacred Heart in 1940, just a few years after Mr. Burden's death. Today, it serves as the site of Sacred Heart's lower elementary school.

Five distinct event spaces span the grounds: the original Victorian Mansion, a Rustic Barn, a White Tented Deck, an English Rose Garden, and a Bucolic Pond area. Guests have full access to the entire property during their event, creating a retreat-style experience rather than a shared hotel or venue floor. Events are supported by on-site catering — with an emphasis on high-quality food and presentation — and a dedicated event coordinator who works with clients to design each occasion around their personal style. The venue hosts weddings, private parties, corporate gatherings, and custom celebrations, with packages ranging from midweek all-inclusive weddings to fully bespoke weekend events.

Our mission has remained focused and clear since our inception. The Southold Historical Museum protects and interprets artifacts that engage, educate, and connect visitors to the history and culture of Southold. We support programs that encourage the long-term preservation of our cultural heritage. The Southold Historical Museum is one of the most important cultural institutions on Long Island's North Fork. The Museum does this through maintaining a headquarters and archive, as well as a number of historically noteworthy buildings that house some of the Museum's large collections. Enjoy! Territory Acknowledgement: The museum is situated on Corchaug Nation land. There is no history of Southold without the history of Corchaug. Our work is inextricably linked to the Corchaug people, as it has been for thousands of years. We pay our respects to the Indigenous Peoples of the past, present, and future. Weddings The museum grounds of the Southold Historical Society are located in the picturesque village of Southold, in the center of the North Fork. A stunning backdrop for your wedding day is provided by sprawling green lawns and over a dozen old structures. Buildings spanning from the 1750s to the 1900s are rich in history and charm, providing unique photo opportunities. We found a perfect cozy space at the end of an unused alley off the Bowery in the fall of 2004, and Freemans Restaurant was born. The restaurant's concept was to create a rough, secretive colonial American tavern. Early Americans imagined the cuisine to be simple, rustic, and inspired by Old World traditions. We've held everything from weddings and birthday parties to movie premieres, luncheons, wrap parties, bridal showers, and business dinners over the years. For seated dinner parties or cocktail celebrations, Freemans has three private rooms available. The entire second floor, including the drawing room, or the entire restaurant, can be rented for groups of 30 to 200 people. Our intimate working wine cellar provides an exceptional eating environment. In your own private wine cellar, seats 10-12 guests for a sit-down lunch or dinner. In an elegant 2nd floor dining room, the Blue Room seats 13-20 guests for a sit-down lunch or dinner, or up to 30 guests for a cocktail reception. Our largest single private room is the Red Room on the second floor. In an attractive 2nd floor dining room, seats 20-30 guests for a sit-down lunch or supper, or up to 40 guests for a cocktail reception. Guests can book the Red Room, Drawing Room, and Blue Room for large-scale gatherings. For a sit-down lunch or dinner, all three rooms can seat 30-80 people, or up to 100 people for a cocktail reception. Our second-floor private cocktail bar can accommodate groups of up to 25 people. We can seat 140 guests for a seated dinner or up to 200 guests for a cocktail reception with a full buyout. Reach out today to start planning your private dining experience!

The Stockade Inn is a boutique hotel and event venue housed in a landmark building that dates to 1814 in Schenectady's Stockade Historic District, one of the oldest continuously inhabited neighborhoods in the United States. Originally constructed as the Mohawk Bank, the structure survived the devastating fire of 1819 that consumed much of the surrounding area. Over the following two centuries it served as a private residence, an educational facility, and — for nearly a century — The Mohawk Club, a prestigious social establishment that counted more than 600 members drawn from the national business community at its peak. Acquired by Urban Initiatives Group in 2020, the property has been restored to blend its original historic character with modern amenities. The inn sits just steps from the Mohawk River. Its event spaces carry the building's architectural heritage throughout: a ceremony room featuring vaulted ceilings and a period fireplace, a ballroom finished with wooden accents and antique chandeliers, and a wooden bar suited to cocktail receptions. Outdoor grounds are available for photography and open-air receptions. The venue hosts weddings, corporate retreats, private dinners, anniversaries, and a range of social celebrations.

Loft The Loft is a bright, open room on the second story with beautiful hardwood flooring, 15-foot ceilings, and exposed brick walls. It also has its own entrance and private facilities. It is a dynamic space that can be dressed up for elegance or down for a fun, laid-back vibe. Although the room can hold up to 120 people for a formal dinner, the design is also suitable for smaller gatherings of 30 people or receptions of 175. The Loft can be used for gallery exhibitions, fashion events, corporate presentations, and even in conjunction with the adjacent screening room. Gallery Breakfast meetings, business luncheons and dinners, birthday celebrations, wine evenings, and a variety of other social occasions are all possible in this private, light, and intimate space. The space can hold up to 40 people for a formal function, but it is also suitable for 20-person board meetings. The Gallery provides a wonderful environment for all your entertainment needs, whether it is in the day or evening. Screening Room The Tribeca Screening Room is a state-of-the-art THX certified screening room located next to the Loft. Our cutting-edge digital cinema projection and film equipment can accommodate Power Point, laser disc, HD presentations, and 16-mm film for mixed media presentations. The theater contains 72 seats but can accommodate up to 95 people. Please call the Screening Room directly at 212.941.3930 for availability and additional information.
