EVENTS AT HQO Make your next event a one-of-a-kind experience by hosting it in the new DC Water headquarters in Navy Yard. There are breathtaking vistas of the Anacostia River from every one of our event rooms. The building, which is LEED Platinum+ certified, is constructed of undulating glass and lies on the brink of the river. The rotunda is reached through a 13270 square foot lobby that runs around the whole structure. The open entryway's walls describe the space's one-of-a-kind design on the inside. HQO was designed to be built around an existing pump station, giving it its distinctive shape. Throughout the foyer, there are various cut-outs that lead to the pumping station. Who We Are and What We Do We are a 501(c)(3) organization that was established by DC Water in November 2016. Our goal is to alleviate the burden on DC Water ratepayers through selling the company's products and technologies, resulting in income generation and expense reductions. Albi is the chef/owner Michael Rafidi's first solo restaurant venture in New York City. Esquire and Robb Report Magazines named Chef Rafidi as the Best New Restaurant in 2020, drawing inspiration from his family's Palestinian roots and bringing to the table an experience that melds the ancient tradition of the region's coal-fired cuisine with local, seasonal ingredients and a refined culinary acumen. With the help of Wine Director William Simons, the restaurant offers an eclectic, international wine program that is anchored by offerings from countries throughout the eastern Mediterranean, including Palestine, Lebanon, and Turkey. The wine list, which is constantly evolving, includes categories such as Savory Whites and Smoky Reds - all of which have been selected to complement Chef Rafidi's menus. Albi, a restaurant in Washington, D.C.'s Navy Yard neighborhood, is owned and operated by Michael Rafidi, who is also the chef. A creative update to traditional Arabic cuisine, using Modern techniques and the best ingredients the Mid-Atlantic has to offer, the menus are offered at the restaurant. His Palestinian ancestors and his grandmother's cooking served as inspiration for this piece. A HOME THAT HAS CHANGED HISTORY President Lincoln’s Cottage was built for banker George W. Riggs in 1842. Architect John Skirving designed the house, situated on a hilltop overlooking downtown Washington, D.C. in the Gothic-Revival style popularized by A.J. Downing. During the Civil War, President Lincoln and his family relocated to the Soldiers’ Home for the “hot season.” The tranquil surroundings at the Soldiers’ Home offered refreshing breezes, a relief from White House protocol, and a place for the President to reflect on all-consuming decisions about military strategy, domestic policy, and foreign relations. Though often viewed as a sanctuary for the president, Lincoln was no less consumed with the war and issues of freedom and slavery here. In many ways, life at the Cottage brought the first family closer to the war and its human cost. At the Soldiers’ Home, Lincoln made some of the decisions that defined his presidency. He met and consulted with Secretary of War Edwin Stanton, Secretary of State William Seward, Vice President Hannibal Hamlin, and many others. He also formulated his ideas on how to bring about an end to slavery during the war in what became the Emancipation Proclamation.
