Silver Lake Ballroom
900 Market St, Shreveport, LA 71101, USA- Spaces for 600 Guests
Silver Lake Ballroom occupies the first floor of the historic Hunter Building in downtown Shreveport, Louisiana — a three-story Art Deco structure built in 1931 as headquarters for the Hunter Oil and Investment Company. The building takes its name from Silver Lake, a natural body of water that once covered much of present-day Market Street before the Red River raft removal in the late 1830s redirected the waterway. Owner Martha Rice established the ballroom to honor that architectural heritage and contribute to the revitalization of the downtown area. The venue offers four distinct event spaces totaling 14,000 square feet, split between indoor and outdoor settings. The Ballroom features original terrazzo floors, six gold mirror chandeliers, and red gum molding across 3,000 square feet. The Heritage Room pairs New Orleans-style 1930s murals with exposed brick walls and 16-foot vaulted concrete beams. Outdoors, The Landing provides 5,000 square feet with 20-foot ceilings and Edison lighting beneath a covered-and-uncovered structure. A Bridal Suite with antique furnishings and a private passage for ceremony entrances rounds out the offering. Silver Lake Ballroom has hosted events since August 2006, including weddings, corporate gatherings, film shoots, and bar mitzvahs. Rentals include tables, chairs, decorative lighting, glass candle centerpieces, and onsite event-day staff. Custom bar packages and warming kitchen access are also available.

Our menu has been carefully crafted to include sandwiches, salads, and cheese-centric dishes that are both contemporary and European in style, in order to appeal to a wide range of food enthusiasts. What it Is and How it Works We know people who know people who know people who know people who know people. The best method to obtain the farmhouse cheeses we are wild about is to identify the people who love creating them as much as we do about selling them. We found this out a long time ago and have been using it ever since. We've established an international network of cheese makers and affineurs who supply us with the artisan and farmhouse cheeses that are not available in other shops in the United States. What to Expect When You Arrive We operate on the premise that cheese should be enjoyable, and we strive to make each and every visit to our shop unique and memorable. There are areas for the cheese novice, the rind smelling expert, and the curd curious to explore. These are the folks who work for us. St James cheesemongers and guests are urged to sample every cheese available on a daily basis in order to guarantee that each cheese is served at its best.

The eight-sectioned mural done was hand-painted by local artist Alvin Sharpe in 1932. It took him approximately three months to complete. First, the canvas was glued to the dome, and then he painted them while on a scaffold in the prone position -- the local version of Michelangelo. (The cost for this project was only $5,500.00 -- just imagine what it would cost today!) In 1993, the Board of Trade was once again renovated, the floors leveled and carpeted with a movable dance floor. It is now available for special event rental, so the public has the opportunity to experience the grandeur of days gone by.
