Farandnear is an 89-acre reservation in Shirley, Massachusetts, managed by The Trustees of Reservations and available for weddings, rehearsal dinners, corporate events, and other private celebrations. The name traces to the property's origins as a Banks family summer retreat — built in 1902, it sat far enough from Boston for a two-day horse journey yet near enough for a seasonal return. The grounds offer an entirely outdoor setting: wooded trails, fields of wildflowers, an arboretum with more than 80 conifer species, remnants of a historic cranberry bog, and a 10-acre hemlock grove called Paradise. Events are anchored by an open-air pavilion with a fire pit. Bull Run Restaurant has operated as a tavern and gathering place in Shirley, Massachusetts since 1740, making it one of the region's most historically rooted event settings. Brice Design International with Turkish light fixtures, custom wall sconces, and a neutral palette suited to a range of event styles. Don McKeag reopened Crane Brook Restaurant in 2004, aiming to build on the restaurant's prior success and create an exciting future for the stunning structure. Antonio Sousa and Maria Marcalo bought the Crane Brook Restaurant in November of 2018, with the intention of restoring it to its former splendor. They began renovations on the outside and inside, and on a daily basis, local folks would stop and ask when Crane Brook will reopen, as well as share their particular memories of Crane Brook. The farm takes its name from a historic hill discovered behind the barn in the early 1800s. The grounds offer three outdoor ceremony locations, a reception tent, and a barn for indoor gatherings, with space for up to 150 guests. A private bridal suite is available for preparation before the ceremony. The farm's resident horses — including Bella, Penny, and mini horses Veronica and Hannah — are a beloved part of the experience and available for guest photos. Events run Friday through Sunday, with one event hosted per day. Outside vendors are welcome with proof of insurance, and the farm provides a curated list of preferred caterers, photographers, and entertainment vendors.
