    Designed by architect Charles Page and built in 1934 by workers of the Civil Works Administration, the Zilker Clubhouse is a one-story limestone structure set on the highest point within Zilker Metropolitan Park, a National Register Historic District overlooking downtown Austin and Lady Bird Lake. The building and its surrounding 30 acres were originally used by the Boy Scouts for meetings and activities, and the clubhouse retains ornamental ironwork, including door handles, hinges, and lanterns, original to its construction. Its centerpiece is a white cottage built between 1860 and 1880 and purchased in 1909 by Allison Mayfield, a former Texas Secretary of State and Railroad Commission chairman, whose family added the cottage's porches and a stone-and-wood pergola patio.
