I am a hopeless romantic at the core of my being. When I was a kid, I was the kind of wanderer who would always stray off the trail and go to the edge of the woods, where I imagined fairies lived. The concept that you should try to surround oneself with beautiful things has been ingrained in me ever since I was a young child. While I was meandering through those winding garden paths, my imagination grew. I came across carpets of petals that had just been freshly laid by the apple and cherry trees. I also walked past little fairy-cups of grape hyacinth in the spring, the feathery asparagus foliage, and the enormous dinner plate dahlias that nodded their bright heads above mine in the late summer. Color, texture, scent, size, proportion. From the time I was around 4 years old, I was always permitted to make the dinner table look nice, and my grandma always let me cut as many flowers as I wanted, regardless of how many there were. I always wanted a lot of flowers. When I was a kid, there were so many various kinds of narcissus during Easter—at least 25 different kinds! I recall their being ruffled pink trumpets, crisp small white ones, frilled and fragrant ones, apricot with ivory ones, and of course the traditional strong yellow ones. The romance, the color, the beauty, and the unlimited possibilities that began in their garden prompted me to explore a variety of mediums, including oil paint, clay, glass, fabric, watercolor, and anything else that is tactile or sensuous. After a while, I went to schools in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe to properly study fine art and art history. My passion is in the creation of beautiful experiences for other people, and experimenting and expanding my knowledge has helped me go back to the intuitive knowledge I had as a youngster.
