The Bend's history began with a series of land grants given out by Lord Proprietors in the 1600s. The area along the historic Ashley River's bend has gone by a number of names over the past nearly 300 years, including Stock Prior, Quarter House, Accabee Plantation, Ryedale, Anna Brae, Malona, and most recently Ashley Shores, a privately owned community. The Pearlstine Company submitted a bid on the property in 2015 with the intention of renovating it. The Bend pays homage to the Ashley River's wide bend as well as the changing character of Charleston.
